I was under the impression that all department were currently under a hiring freeze at the moment, due to the economy. That being said, I'm not really sure what you're getting at...? (probably my fault, not yours)
Rice University, after losing about 1 billion of its endowment during the financial meltdown, has a mascot that loses his cool and stares down an official! These are embarrassing times. As an alumnus, this will really affect the extent to which I consider giving money to my alma mater. It might be downgraded from slim to none.
