The Eagles moved back four spots in round 1 and picked up the 83rd pick (which we actually eventually used on Louis Nix). Assuming they would have taken 33 and potentially 65, I wouldn't rate that as "barely" anything. Would you trade Xavier and Nix for Manziel?
It's a moot point and not worth revisiting for a couple/few years anyway. I do consider the Texans gutless for not going up to get him, that I can say today.
The circus would have been kind of fun (I guess), but I don't think he's ever going to be much better than an average QB.
No I believe cheap was the reason for Mario over VY and Bush, cheap. This year different situation entirely, it was gutless IMO to stand pat and not even make an effort to get a guy in here the fans could hang their hope on. No hope no problem, them idiots will keep coming to the games and with no hope, we only have to sell "next year".
Again, his results are (mostly) irrelevant. The length of the circus is tied to his performance - but until he proves he's worthy/not worthy, there's going to be a circus. I,for one, was all for it. I thought it'd be fun to be the center of the NFL for a spell. And I have absolutely no idea what he's going to do in the pros.
Intelligent was the reason for Mario over VY and Bush.....same reason for not wasting picks on Manziel.
I'd argue it was pure luck, nothing in our (if I may use our, my fan card is currently under review by the higher ups here at CF) history shows any level of intelligence.
Nix probably would have still been available in the 4th or 5th round, or even later. 340lb NT's with a serious knee issues usually don't go early. The Texans may have actually wasted picks moving up for him. And as far as Xavier... He's a guard. So of course you would dump those two to get Johnny.
Heck, Tebow? I bet he could at least withstand the hits being given out by whoever Newton forgets to block...
