Hi, we can discuss about that.
As my experience of communication with Taiwanese, I find the divarication and angry are mostly from the misunderstanding of concept of 'China'. Maybe it's because of the influence from media of both goverments.
    It's not arrogant.
When we say 'Taiwan is part of China', it means national China not govements China.
Of course we know the govements of China and Taiwan are total independent with each other. But we can not accept the conclusion that 'Taiwan is independent with national China'
When we say 'Chinese', it means ' 华人 ' at most time, but not people from People's Republic of China.
In our mind, ' 中国人' = ' 华人' at a lot time.
but in your mind ' 中国人 ' = 'people from People's Republic of China'
Maybe that's the biggest culture different occures for the 60years of division.

When you start talking 'Taiwan province', you have lost your case. You are the one need to go somewhere else.

China is still a developing country. We have too much skilled workers but still lack of high educated business elites. I understand there is no reason for people to like low quality products, Although it's nothing to
    do with Chinese basketball players.

You raise an interesting point regarding the difference between what is considered ethnic people versus government but I think the Taiwan / PRC situation is a bit different than that. Ethnic Chinese in Singapore call themselves, ' 华人' , but no one would consider Singapore to be '中国'. I think the difference between ' 中国人' = ' 华人' quite greater than how you portray it the use of '中国' does imply a single nation unit rather than just an ethnicity.

For people who don't know Chinese the Chinese terms ' 华人' is generally considered the Chinese ethnicity / culture and is generally used by the Mandarin speaking Chinese diaspora to refer to themselves while the term '中国' is the name of the country of China, FYI it means Central State, and ' 中国人' would be a litterally translated as "person of the Chinese (Central) state."

Now this thread has everything. Misunderstood jokes, Pryuen getting angry, and arguments about Tibet and Taiwan are essential parts of all great threads. But it's not complete until there's a Street Fighter reference.
