If the Kings are sold and moved to Seattle, there could be a possibility that they would trade DMC for Jeremy Lin and a couple of our power forwards. Lin would keep that stadium full in Seattle regardless of their record.

Laker will amnesty Gasol, and we may not pick him up. Kings would match the max offer for Cousins.

if by rent you mean a short contract, it's not likely. He's probably getting at least 3, probably 4 years considering the level of play this year. He's too big a piece of the Pacers for them to let him go easily.

Don't worry! If we couldn't get Howard, we will get someone at trade deadline, maybe Paul Gasol or Okafor

True. But as you saw against the Clippers, Asik can do a fine job on PFs while allowing Gasol to stay in the middle against usually the less skilled big. And no, don't bother talking about PFs like Melo. There is NO ONE in the league that can stop them. The best defenders only water down their efficiency. I have a funny feeling Asik would that just fine.

offering Cousins the max is like asking a crack head to safe-guard your life's savings. This won't end well.

If you trying to offer Cousins Max deal. your forgetting that we have to sign Lin and Asik also. bc their contract should be coming up. and even if we dont sign Lin with us siginig max to Howard, and prob another FA this year and Parsons (Signing wont be cheap) i dont see us having another MAX contract guy coming next year.

We're not going to get a max-level restricted free agent. The idea needs to stop.

Restricted free agency can work when it's role players like Lin/Asik. They're not max guys, so you can get creative with frontloading or backloading their contracts and/or overpay slightly in hopes of their teams backing down. With max guys, there's very little creativity to it. They're going to get paid X amount over X years, and if their original teams aren't willing to pay it, they'll trade them in advance like OKC did with Harden.

If you want another team's All-Star early in their career (i.e. when restricted FA is an issue), you're going to have to trade for them. Waiting until free agency is fool's gold. If the Kings allow him to hit FA, they're going to match on anything.

    Speaking about Cousins in general:

I disagree that his problem is he DGAF. If anything, with the body language and stupid technicals, he cares a great deal he just doesn't have the discipline or self control to know how to act properly.

People like to act like the two best 5's in the game (Dwight and Bynum) don't routinely make boneheaded mistakes, pick up stupid technicals and earn suspensions but they do. Cousins has the talent to be in the same conversation as those two despite his mental/intangible issues.

Is dealing with the maturity issues and mental errors ideal? No...but if their play offsets it, it's a risk worth taking, IMO.

Would love to get Cousins, but agree with the concensus -- Sacramento will not let him walk without compensation. If we're to get him at all, it'll be for a hefty package this offseason, and we probably don't have the right assets to do it.

Renting Pau for a year is not a bad idea though, if we strike out on more immediate long-term targets. He'd pair well with Harden imo (his shooting can pull big men out of the paint for drives), and it'd give us the incumbency to re-sign him the next season at a smaller salary if he fits well and we can make the dollars work.

But, as much as Morey talks about waiting for the right piece, I think there is some urgency to find the right piece by next February. You don't want to waste another season with not really contending, and you don't want to risk Asik gobbling up free agent salary cap space (though you could possibly set up for a ton of cap-clearing to sign 2 max guys while letting Lin and Asik walk).

The Rockets arent trading a player for like Pau..they will wait for the likely amnesty(The Lakers arent Amnestying Kobe..the city would go mad)..and if he isnt picked up, the Rockets may consider a one year rental...

Dwight is most likely staying with LA or considering playing in Houston. I think that is it.

In regards to Cousins...while he is clearly very talented...i dont think the Kings are looking to part with Cousins without trying to build around him first...

Wow everyone giving up on T-Rob already. Just wait people, he has not had a big chance to excel. He was dropped into the middle of a playoff bound team that had to stick with a certain group rather than a developing PF.

Give him this offseason to develop until we start writing him off as a scrub

This needs to be thrown in the dumb trade ideas thread and not its own thread.

Problem is use hamstring yourself from blowing your max on a better guy. And then you can get stuck with a team that is good but never a serious contender.
