SJC had a similar thread a while back, but I'm off to Dubai with the lady friend on Saturday and wanted to get reco's for what to do, where to go, etc., as well as any general tips that tourists should know.

SJC, did you have any particularly enjoyable experiences?

Hey Prempeh, nice to hear from you.

Maybe this thread helps a bit, some good advice from R0ckets03:

I have to admit that I went to Dubai mainly for the sun. I went to some malls - Madinat Jumeirah was cool (also to eat there in the evening next to the water).

I heard that one can visit the Burj el Arab if you make reservations for afternoon tea (not just as expensive as actually eating there), but you need to make reservations way in advance.

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt both times, they have a nice pool area. I went to the beach (I think it was Jumeirah Beach??), there seems to be a lot of construction going on in that area, but still, I enjoyed the beach there very much.

Other than that, I think R0ckets03 and Uprising probably know a lot more about Dubai than I do...hope they see this thread.

    Have a nice trip! :)

(and don't forget to post pictures of your lady friend! ;))

I'm glad you guys brought this up- I may be going there this winter for some gigs.

I grew up there as a kid from 1982-88. I can't wait to see it again, it has changed so much. I wish I had enough money to invest in an apartment there.'

Hey, Rockets03- you know if I can crash at someone's place there during christmastime, if they're not home?
