Hall of Fame is such a charade, everybody getting in lately. The fact that Mutombo is not likely to make it and Miller is, says enough.
1 Finals appearance in his career on some stacked, stacked Indiana teams. I followed the NBA for basically all of Reggie's career, and "champion" is the last term I'd use to describe him. But his playoff moments against the Knicks are some of the sickest display of clutch play I've ever seen.
Exactly and even though he's a great shooter who scored a lot of points, is that seriously enough to make the Hall of Fame now? Then everybody would be in from back in the day when having a average of 20+ points over several seasons wasn't rare.
say what you want but the guy had game. definitely one of the all time greats. <iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LDSF8otJH8Y" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" width="420"></iframe>
Reggie Miller was a very charismatic, memorable player, especially in the playoffs, but he is not HOF caliber. "Only" a 5x All-Star, 3x All NBA 3rd team, never a serious candidate for MVP, no championship, never a scoring champion, didn't radically change the game etc... The credentials are just not there. I know how much hate he gets on these boards, but someone like T-Mac has way more credentials than Reggie Miller.
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=200919&highlight=reggie+miller Same discussion last year. I still think if Chris Mullin is a HOFer then Reggie should be too. His playoff numbers should get him in.
I didn't really agree with Chris Mullin getting in either but I think what Mullin has going for him is the "has this player every been considered the best player at his position" test and that's definitely the case for him from 88 to 92, evidenced by his 1st Team All-NBA selection in '92. You can't say the same about Reggie, he was never even the clear-cut second best after MJ with Drexler and Richmond.
True, but there is no doubt that the competition at SG with MJ and Clyde was far greater than SF. All Mullin had to compete with was a young Pippen and James Worthy. Reggie also played in a far less prolific offense. They were a grind it out team that liked to play inside out and use the shot clock.
Reggie is surely a HOFer... another great player who had the unfortunate luck of trying to win a championship during the MJ dominance.... the guy was prob top 5 in the league for a decade.... give him his due...
with guys liek phil knight and and hs coaches making it, I don' t think its abouts tats and its beyond just on court production. ITs the impact you have had on the game and perception of basketball. That is why Yao will make it, Reggie definitely deserves to as such a huge figure in indiana basketball and his fun clutch memeories especially in NY
Nice jumper and CLUTCH. It's not like the NFL HOF. He's earned a spot IMO. Nobody has terrorized Spike Lee and the Knicks like Reggie has.... MJ included.
