Reffing was absolutely terrible tonight in favor of Pelicans

Funny enough, Ken Mauer was also reffing the Memphis game.

    Go figure.

It's like a broken record in the GARM.

Every single game the refs are out to get the Rockets, and only the Rockets. Out of 30 teams, there must be some special conspiracy against Houston for that to happen.

    Sounds reasonable.

On one of the final plays of the game, we inbounded the ball from the frontcourt to the backcourt. Does anyone know why this play is legal, but the Howard to Terry play is not?

Because we advanced it out of a timeout while the other play was a violation against the Pels taken at the spot of the violation. That's my guess but that snake Ken Mauer set us up on that one.

Can't blame Ken Mauer for the Rockets not knowing the rules.

nope there was definitely a clock malfunction to start the play. I'm not sure what you are watching there... the clock should have started when the ball hit the rim, but only started only after Howard hit it downwards and it after it began to bounce back upwards...

By the time Cunningham touched it, time should have already expired and the total elapsed time from when the clock should have started until when the 1.7 seconds was officially off of the clock took about 4.2+ seconds...

that entire play was just a major fail by the clock operator and the ref. I would have been absolutely furious if we had lost the game that way...

Sorry, you are wrong. The clock immediately started when the first player touched it. Clock does not start when it hits the rim...where'd you come up with that idea?

    NBA Rules
    http://www.nba.com/analysis/rules_5.html

    Section IX-Time-In

    a. After time has been out, the game clock shall be started when the ball is legally touched by any player within the playing area of the court.
    b. On a free throw that is unsuccessful and the ball continues in play, the game clock shall be started when the missed free throw is legally touched by any player.

I rewatched it twice. It definitely started perfectly. The only issue was the clock operator anticipated the whistle on out of bounds.

Stop making a big deal about this. It was an accident and the NBA has a review system for this had the shot gone in. The shot would have been nullified, because the clock should have been at zero had it not stopped prematurely.

You were right about that, I may have been thinking of the college basketball rule or something else, not sure what I was thinking.

With as many people as there are that post here, there is bound to be someone complaining about the refs every single game.

I, however, only post about the referees when there is a big discrepancy in the calls.

Last night, Harden wasn't given calls. (Just off the top of my head, remember the end of the 3rd quarter when Harden took it up the court in 4 seconds for a lay-up to beat the buzzer and Anjinca fouled the crap outta him but the ref never blew the whistle? Or how about when Harden blew by Norris Cole who fouled him but Harden made it anyway but wasn't given the and1?).

Yet on the other end, they were calling touch fouls against the Rockets.

They called defensive 3 seconds against the Rockets which gave the Pelicans a free throw. They called offensive 3 seconds right as Brewer caught a wide-open pass in the corner for the 3. He made it, but it was waved off.

It was clear the refs were favoring the Pelicans.

There will be a report on this right?? Let's see what they say about that most blatant attempt to give the Pelicans a shot to tie or win if there ever was one. You can that ****ing referee get out of the way and even look at his feet!!

Geez. Save the outrage for when we need it.

Please understand - every other team's fans has the same complaints about the Rockets. James Harden is treated extremely well by refs, except for once every dozen games or so when they decide they don't want him at the line. This wasn't one of those.

Reffing was a tiny, tiny problem compared to the turnovers and the Tyreke Evans supernova. Once those problems were brought into check, the Rockets won the middle half of the game by 23.

The clock kerfuffle at the end was of course ridiculous, but it led to nothing and I strongly suspect that they would have overturned it on either the out of bounds or the clock stoppage had the shot gone in.

And stopping the clock at 0.3, actually, was correct. The refs should have stopped play because the Hawks player touched the ball while standing out of bounds.

So, this thread (unsurprisingly) is a major overreaction. Really nothing to see here.

No, it wasn't. It would have been correct if the ref blew his whistle and called out of bounds. Instead, the clock operator gave them a chance to send the game in to overtime. If he made the basket, they wouldn't have been able to review the out of bounds and only check to see if he got it off in time, according to the clock, which he did.

The clock operator is the referee, the referee has stopped the clock and then not called out of bounds.

If that's true, then nevermind my post. Seems like a screwy rule in that case.

It would have been reviewed and overturned for sure.

Damn, our fans love to whine

When Harden goes to the line 20 times on quite a few soft calls, we're all happy. The moment a few go our way, we blame reffing

It's sports - you're not going to get everything go your way

"His favorite pregame meal is blackened chicken salad with dinner rolls and unsweetened iced tea, which he sweetens himself by adding 3 to 4 droplets of liquid stevia. *If dinner rolls are not available, he will instead prefer regular hamburger buns."

Wikipedia always includes the important stuff.
