https://kotaku.com/inside-rockstar-games-culture-of-crunch-1829936466/amp I trust this one dude way more than I trust the other developers that "came forward" with positive information.
There will be in depth analysis videos once the game is out, but if it's like most games the graphics quality should be Xbox One X > PS4 Pro > PS4 > Xbox One.
Gamestop is giving you a 100 dollars credit towards an Xbox One X when you buy RDR2. Supposedly, some are saying that that promo is also stackable with the $200 trade of an old xbox towards the Xbox One X as well- for a total savings of $300 off a new Xbox One X console. Pretty good deal if you ask me. Also, if you want to trade in a ps4, you can get $250 in credit towards an Xbox One X and stack that with the $100 promo from buying RDR2.
I don't have a 4K TV so I don't need the Xbox one X, but would get the Xbox One S if they have these same promotions. Do you know?
You can get the $100 off with the purchase of RDR2 but cant trade in an older system for the S and still receive the $200 credit.
Never played the first one. Is it a must before playing this new release? Or will I be okay going straight into 2?
From what I've heard, it isn't a must. There were will be some character background and information that you won't have or of which you won't be aware, but I don't think it is necessary. If you get a chance, play it because it was a great game. But I don't think you have to. The reviews I've seen of this current game are stellar. IGN gave it 10/10 and called it a masterpiece. The Verge and Polygon also loved it.
It's a prequel, just read the plot for the first one on Wikipedia if you're interested. John Marsden (the protagonist from the first game) is part of the gang you're in for part 2, but you play as Arthur.

Going to get the white Xbox One X bundle with Fallout 76 and RDR2. The Digital Foundry comparison video between all the versions sealed the deal.
I just ordered the original. GOTY edition for xbox one/360 was only $15 on Amazon. Includes the zombie version too which some people are saying is better than the original. Can anyone confirm/deny this? Should I be geeked out to play the original? I only play campaigns, no online fwiw.
I actually didn't have an interest in a Zombie western game. I have heard good things about it but haven't played it.
Undead Nightmare is the single best DLC I've ever played. With that said it's not better than the main campaign, it's something you do as well. In fact I feel like finishing the original campaign is what made the DLC so rewarding. It turns the whole game (which -- while it has humor -- is generally more serious in tone) into a B-level horror movie. It's funny, gory, and some of the stuff you run into is genuinely interesting. Without spoiling much, you run into some mythological creatures. As for the original game, it still holds up today and it's in my top 5 all time. I would say it's a must play. The funny thing is, when it was originally about to come out I wasn't hyped about it at all. Western...woopty doo... (I was all about Modern Warfare at the time) my wife that doesn't even play games was more interested. Once I bought it though I realized how mistaken I was. The Western setting is the best part, it's a great pallette cleanser from all the futuristic-modern-junk that is so prevalent today.
That's exactly why I bought it. Using old weapons and not having a million complicated gadgets and systems sounds so refreshing.
For me playing GTA was too much like playing an R rated version of the Sims with violence. I've never rode a horse before, but I definitely find traversing on one infinitely more interesting than driving cars around and getting stuck in traffic. I can do that IRL.
From "Let's play" series on youtube, it looks (and seems to play more) like an Uncharted / Tomb Raider game, than GTA. Universal acclaim for it, so far. I wish they would remaster the old one, though, for this-gen consoles. Would have really made sense, since RDR1 was released 8 years ago. Can be both a money earner and something to draw in new fans. It's been a solid past few months for video games, so far. Spider-Man, AC: Odyssey, RDR2, God of War, Octopath Traveler, Celeste.
