I doubt any would go into real nuts and bolts how to do it...

But there was a documentary seires on different special forces in the American military. Snipers was one, they would go through boot camp and testing and stuff but it was suuuuuper interesting. And that's coming from me, someone who really isn't into war and military and such.

There's charts that they memorize that account for the caliber of rifle, bullet drop, wind effects, and terrain (up or downhill). Their scopes have micro-adjustments so they can click it in whatever direction needed. Those serious military types have it all memorized, and they have a spotter. Take a deep breath, exhale fully, count to 1 and pull the trigger.

I went pronghorn antelope hunting once, just to say I did. 318 418 (just looked at the pics) yards according to the laser rangefinder, right through the heart. It was delicious.

But yeah, I can't imagine hitting anything smaller than a barn that far away, unless I had a howitzer.

I wish I could remember the name of the show, it was great. They sort of went into the mechanics but not really, mostly just outlined the camp they go through.

Besides all the physical stuff, snipers had to hit targets up to 1,000 feet, by every 100 foot. So they got 30 shots and had to hit 27 of them. Pretty impressive. Then they learn about the ghillie suits, they have to fool their own ex-sniper trainers by sneaking up a 4 mile long course or something, get a shot off. Then a spotter goes and stands near them, they have to read off cards the trainers are holding and with the spotter being close they have to fire another round. If at any point they get busted, or don't meet the marks shooting they get cut then and there and have to start the months long course all over again. Pretty select group by the end. I thought it was crazy how hidden they have to be to not be spotted by people trained the same way they were, looking for them and all.

They also outlined green berets, army rangers, paratroopers and some others. Army Rangers was a cool one too, they beat those kids up.
