The Slits The Raincoats Au Pairs Delta 5 Not all female but fronted by great female singers: Siouxsie and the Banshees Lush My Bloody Valentine Blondie
Manny, some of those aren't even all "mostly" girl bands! But you know this. Glad the Slits are getting some love though.
One of my favorite newer bands The Dum Dum Girls: <iframe width="640" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/SroXt0qrYJQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="853" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/AEz4_X7tshg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> From the GTA V soundtrack <iframe width="853" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5dnhszniNUk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> And a classic: <iframe width="640" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/YAbYsxd3ADg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
i cant think of any more "all female" bands that have not already been mentioned but how about sinead o'connor? she had dudes in her band, but she wrote and produced her own records. even at a young age was in control of her own career...she shaved her head b/c her record label was trying to make her look "sexier" so she showed up at her managers office with a shaved head and said "what are you going to do now"...pretty ballsy move for young woman going up against a bunch of record executives. outspoken, controversial, political...i dont think she gets enough credit for basically kick-starting that whole lillith fair/female empowerment/girl power trend of the 90's...alanis morrissete, tori amos, sarah mclaughlin, ect all followed the trail that sinead blazed. and pj harvey too, but she is awesome so i did not want to mention her in the same sentence as the others. 21 year olds are not supposed to be this bad-ass... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6Lcq9CTFGhU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

^ Well, I never though I'd want the Indigo Girls to truly end an otherwise great thread, but now I wish it had. The Indigo Girls broke a friend of mine's nose in Seattle. They were coming out of a record store with gusto and the door cracked my friend hard in the nose. Broke it. But now for the rest of his life, he's always been able to answer "why do you hate the Indigo Girls so much?" "The broke my ****ing nose!" Josie and the Pussycats is somehow worse. It's down there in a dark place on my brainstem, from childhood. I didn't want to go there again, ever.
Certainly not an all girl band, but the Wilson sisters were the driving force behind Heart and they were pioneers back in the day that chicks could Rock!! Good call.
Serious question: When the hell did Sleater Kinney get so popular? I don't remember anywhere near this amount of hype when the Woods came out. Is it because of Portlandia? Anyways, early Go-Gos was legit. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/EToEhep4rco" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Yes, absolutely. Portlandia and the whole hipster culture made it that much bigger. P.S I hate hipsters
Female fronted bands are the best. I wouldn't want to live in a world without Sleater-Kinney, Beach House, St. Vincent, The Blow. I caught the Dallas S-K show. They still kill it, and the new album is great. Carrie and Portlandia has brought them a bigger following, but when you see them live you realize Corin is still the heart of the band. She is magic.
I don't personally know of this girl but this pertinent article came across my news feed: Meet the Frontwoman Writing Some of Rock’s Best New Lyrics http://www.wired.com/2015/04/speedy-ortiz-sadie-dupuis/
Yep, she's a badass. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/vzcfBqAIj5g" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Juliana Hatfield 3 anyone? No? Apparently they are back together again and touring. https://youtu.be/9sZCpPrFEP4
