I get all the jokes... but in all seriousness, this sounds pretty awesome from a viewer perspective. I don't want to go. Heck, probably won't even watch consistently. But you can be damn sure there will be many many episodes of that "series" that would consistently generate worldwide ratings way higher than anything ever seen previously.
Probably would be the most remarkable thing we have done as humanity in quite awhile. Not to mention the biggest TV event of all time.
I have a Mars colony research page as a "liked" page on my Facebook. There is a big contrast in seeing updates of people in spacesuits and pods trying to advance humanity into other worlds... Along with the usual postings of Instagram "modeling" pics, animal memes, insecure attention seeking, and whiney rantings about really trivial things. There can be that "I Don't Want To Live On This Planet Anymore" feel about it. Its like DON'T you people SEE how dumb you look. We do need to START CIVILIZATION OVER in lots of ways. The historical achievement going to Mars would be unprecedented. But then for some reason these pursuits don't involve the so-called sins and vices like drinking, promiscuity, sexualized cultures and all that. Why are we always nannying ourselves to death? So yeah I think we need to cool it in shaming humanity so much. How is earth not paradise compared to Mars. You'd need the most MONSTROUS blunts imaginable and more for Mars living. Which might be a draw for some people.
That does seem a benefit of space explorations. There isnt any room for petty ho'ing and bullsh**. You have to maintain integrity How out out place would "Real Housewives" and "Basketball Wives" be on Mars? Though I just said shallow pleasures arent that bad, it can go to show how much trash we tolerate as acceptable and how things like that arent "meaningfully" beneficial. Its from a non-profit in the Netherlands, privately run. So their interest can be independent. Which would still be a great human interest. And I'd assume its to coincide with the other technology developments, not entirely separate from it
This plan is ridiculous -- if you're just going to do a loop around the planet why not go to Venus? It's much closer and there is already a solid plan using 60's tech -except they were actually going to go into orbit around Venus and study it for a few weeks [NASA decided to use the last Saturn rocket to make Skylab instead].
I didn't even read the OP and thought it was about this plan... We already have a Deadliest Catch. I think this is less of a exploration/research, rather more of a "let's kill these 24 people and watch"
Beyond doing it as a joke, who would be crazy enough to do this? And it's a total gimmick that will never happen. Could you imagine - a one way ticket to mars. WTF are you going to do to pass the time when you get there? You better hope they send up two women and a dude up there.
Yea, definitely. This is what I thought of first as well when I imagined three people needing something to do to pass the time. One talentless dude and two prostitutes. Yup.
Sounds like it all might be BS. One of the finalists is saying its a scam. http://gizmodo.com/mars-one-is-broke-disorganized-and-sketchy-as-hell-1691726224
