Compartment syndrome is a serious condition. One of the house staff was playing basketball during medical school and fell on his calf, and within a day his calf was numb from the muscle swelling into itself and he had to have same day surgery to cut open his leg to relieve the pressure.

 

I've seen a fifteen year old lose his arm from the elbow down due to Compartment Syndrome...
