Jason Terry is the sticking point for picking up Ty freaking Lawson?! Not in a million years. Question: why the hell would Denver make that trade?
Because they have no chance at the playoffs this year or next and then they would lose Lawson. So they deal him now or next year and start the rebuilding. In this deal they save salary this year and next, get a mid 1st, late 1st last year in Capela, and a decent rotation player in Pap. Decent haul for them. Certainly worth it for us, although Shved would certainly be preferred.
Earth to Rockets fans: If Houston trades for a player whose salary is more than $5 mil or so, there is a VERY good chance that Jason Terry is one of the players getting shipped out. The main reason for the Terry trade was to obtain a relatively large expiring contract that could later be used in a trade for a big(ger) name, with a big(ger) salary. The draft picks received from Sacramento, plus any on-the-court production from Terry, is gravy. The same can be said for Kostas Papanikolaou, and Alexey Shved, and maybe Corey Brewer. If Houston wants to acquire a player with a $12 mil salary, then Houston needs to be able to send out approximately $12 mil in salaries. This is where Terry and Papanikolaou and Shved, and maybe Brewer, come into play. Therefore, it is silly to post nonsense like "We can't give up Jason Terry!". Please make it stop!
Cleveland Gets: Dwight TJ Rockets Get: Kevin Love Goran Dragic Suns Get: Tristan Thompson Clint Capela Canaan NO pick DMO/Dorsey Love/Smith Ariza/Brewer Harden/Terry Dragic/Bev McHale gets his boys!!! We get killed on the boards... But we make more of the enormous amount of 3s we take Depending on how everything goes we would have enough space to offer Marc Gasol (the best Center in the game) a Max and keep Dragic... It's a Morey move and it keeps us flexible Gasol DMO Ariza Harden Dragic Now that lineup is guaranteed WCF worthy
While I agree with the sentiment your post in general , it would be difficult to part with Terry , not so much because of his performance on the court but what he seems to bring to the locker room / team culture. Fact is , his contract (along with KPap) is the "one to move" in terms of salary matching. I doubt that Brewer is moved ... Just too many reasons he should stay.
Terry and K-Pap do have movable salaries and Brewer too ,but the key to acquiring a bigger name, remains the Pelicans pick. Things may change by the February deadline, but I don't expect a name bigger than Deng right now, and that won't be enough to get anything done from the Rockets side.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ncsbh74 Here's one we wouldn't even have to wait for. -Rockets trade 3 guys that aren't even in the rotation right now for a legit talent at the starting PG spot longterm (restricted, but should be able to match anything), they get a backup veteran big. -OKC really makes out well with this one. Kanter is a guy that I think could really be a nice fit for them. Can play alongside Ibaka who becomes your primary shot blocker. They also get a solid young backup PG in Canaan & a big for the future with Capela. -The Jazz get to take a look at T. Jones for a year 1/2 in a 3 big rotation. With a larger role, I could see him really expand his game. Probably a player that makes more sense than Kanter who probably fits in better on a team with a defined role for him.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=p79844d Give the NOP pick to Orlando toss in a couple of 2nd rounders to Denver...
Because he's really interested in a 33 year old PG who can't play defense even when he tries that doesn't even score in double digits on the worst team in basketball. AND.... He's making 7+ mil per year over the next two season AFTER this one. Yep... Morey will be all over that one. .................................................................................... Yes, I realize Morey went after him two years ago. That was when he was an unrestricted free agent. There is no telling what Morey actually was willing to pay for him. Maybe only the mid-level or less for a year or two. There are no rumors of Morey having any interest after the Mavs signed him to that long term contract.
