Clippers matched FA Tyrone Wallace today, leaving them with 17 guaranteed roster spots. They will need to make some moves and some Clipper fans are thinking S.Thornwell might be waived/traded. He had a solid rookie year and showed he was a plus defensively. I'd love to take a swing on him and our TPE from the Anderson deal would allow us to do so. Thornwell(salary absorbed with TPE) for Hou/Gsw 2019 2nd
That's a pretty good deal. We might have more difficulty with the TPE later but I could see us trading a Knight + or less desirably a Gordon + package and losing a couple of roster slots where that TPE and TPMLE might be pretty valuable to us in filling out the end of the roster. My guess is since we didn't already use the exception that Morey wants to stockpile assets especially this time and has several scenarios/targets worked out. I definitely think there will be major movement at the deadline this year. There is too much upheaval and turmoil coming from FA this offseason for teams not to want to make moves throughout the season as things don't pan out. The damn West will be a bloodbath and Boston is going to go through a lot of transition with making all of the pieces fit. Toronto and Washington will also be interesting.
The only way to meet a steep asking price is have more players and teams involved. It's possible to move Dieng's contract with that third team (like Sacramento) but to do so means major blockbuster trade (like 12 guys changing teams). The Rockets are probably willing to put Knight, Gordon, Nene, and Qi into the trade machine. The Heat seem determined to keep sweeteners out of a deal so that leaves Tyler/James Johnson as options. Minnesota wants to include Dieng with Butler. So how many contracts from Sacramento are involved? (McLemore for sure, expiring deals like Koufos, Randolph likely, perhaps WCS? I got the trade machine to shake all of that out (but I'm not sure if it would work before 10/31 because of the need to deal Knight to Sacramento). A 4-way trade doesn't net Butler to Houston, but you might end up with Randolph, JJ, and KK. Getting some size behind Clint is one of our priorities. Such a deal would be more attractive to Houston if WCS is in the mix (instead of say, Randolph or KK).
Three non-simultaneous trades: #1 → [ESPN TM] ← Dieng / Knight / Matthews #2 → [ESPN TM] ← Butler / Gordon / Nenê / Barea #3 → [ESPN TM] ← Chriss / Jones Net result Dallas in: Brandon Knight, Nenê + pick(s) from HOU Minnesota in: Eric Gordon, Wes Matthews, Marquese Chriss, JJ Barea Houston in: Jimmy Butler, Gorgui Dieng, Tyus Jones
I know, I know. We talk about 3pt specialists to the Rockets every year, and Korver seems to be on the wish list, every time. But would Korver make us a better team, at this point? And what would we have to give up?
I'd like Korver too but I think we don't have the "right" contracts to make this work. He's making $7.5 this year so while we'd probably want to send out Chriss ($3.2) we'd have to include Nene after 10/31 or multiple vet min guys that would torpedo our bench depth.
Shooting is nice, but with the roster the way it is now, I could see the Rockets focusing on other needs. 1) Another defensive oriented wing 2) A vet 4/5 that can spell PJ Tucker 3) True backup C
No doubt that. Please name some potentially underrated players that might become available via trade.
I thought of most of the imploders before reading Cod's sig. It's not hard to do that. I discussed James Johnson with Deckard a few days ago. I like him. Deckard is smarter than me though. He correctly pointed out acquiring him would be tough. I believe the Knicks will implode if Kristaps isn't back soon. Lance Thomas makes only 7.2 M. He would be a very solid 4/3 for Houston with his terrific defense. JaMychal is always a target. Memphis may make him available to Houston if the assets are right. Can he be a Durant "stopper"? I haven't seen enough of him to determine that. I'm not sure about the wings though. I still like Courtney Lee, but he is less likely to be effective against GS. Thanks for your post.
James Johnson would be ideal. JaMychal is also a great candidate as well. Yeah, those kind of guys would be a big help from a depth and versatility perspective.
Atlanta Gets: Brandon Knight Marquese Chriss Zhou Xi 1st Round Pick Minnesota Gets: Kent Bazemore Nene 3 1st Round Picks Houston Gets: Jimmy Butler Tyus Jones
James Johnson would play Tucker’s role, starting 4 and small ball 5. Rockets need a 3 that can hit 3ball at .360 or better, can defend 1-5 and also play small ball 4.
Trade after 10/31/18 ORL: Eric Gordon, Brandon Knight, Zhou Qi, 2 first round picks, rights to Llull HOU: Aaron Gordon, Jonathon Simmons, 2nd round pick Magic roster Knight/Augustin EGordon/Jerian Grant Ross/Fournier Isaac/Tucker Vuvecic/Bamba *Finally play Isaac at natural 4 spot and be rid of AGordon contract. Can also play big with Bamba, Vucevic, Isaac, Ross, EGordon or switch everything lineup with EGordon, Ross, PJ, Isaac, Bamba. Rockets Roster CP3/MCW Harden/Gerald Green Simmons/Ennis AGordon/Melo/Clark Capela/Nene/Chriss *Small ball switch everything line up: CP3, Harden, Simmons, Clark, AGordon (or switch Clark with hot hand between Ennis, Green, etc.)
Brandon Knight + 2nd for Kenneth Faried Faried is an expiring, but hasn't played in seasons. If he works out then he can be a back-up 4/5 for situational match-ups against teams like the Lakers and Pelicans. Nets take Knight, and can drive up his value over time so he can be traded as an expiring while also taking in a 2nd round pick. One man's trash is another's treasure.
Washington get JB and Eric Gordon Timberwolves get bradley Beal + 2 1st from Hou + 1st from Washington Houston get Otto Porter + Tyus Jones + Gibson
