Cheney, Paul trade criticism over Iraq war Potential presidential candidate Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., criticized those who pushed the U.S. military invasion in Iraq and are now blaming the Obama administration for the aftermath it is dealing with. ‘‘What’s going on now, I don’t blame on President Obama,’’ Paul said. ‘‘But I do blame the Iraq War on the chaos that is in the Middle East. I also blame those who are for the Iraq War for emboldening Iran. These are the same people now who are petrified of what Iran may become.’’ Former Vice President Dick Cheney said Sunday he was a strong supporter of going into Iraq during the George W. Bush administration and remains so now. Cheney dismissed Paul as an ‘‘isolationist’’ who ‘‘doesn’t believe we ought to be involved in that part of the world. I think it’s absolutely essential.’’ full article
Cheney is looking more and more like McNamara or one of those goofy Nixon staffers who leveraged entire successful political and professional careers on one ****ty dishonest plan and can't stop rationalizing it. The guy could probably be running Exxon now if he hadn't wasted the new century babysitting Cliff Barnes.
FIFY. If a person isn't at odds with Dick Cheney, they have serious problems. The more he's in the news, the more Dems rejoice and Republicans should cringe. He will disappear before mid-terms.
I've stayed away from the D&D lately, not a whole lot of intelligent discussion just a bunch of partisan ridiculousness and childish name calling. As to this topic, it's to be expected that a Republican with Libertarian roots (though not nearly as much so as his father) would disagree with any foreign intervention at all because most Libertarians are inherently anti-government action of any kind and that includes military action.
He is not even arguing against the war. He is directly calling out Cheney for trying to blame Obama. Being a libertarian and anti war have nothing to do with the comments he made nor do they discredit them.
McNamara is way too big of a compliment for Cheney - he at least appeared to realize his folly towards the end, and spent his post-Admin career to less-warry endeavors like the World Bank and disarmament. if McNamara was as shameless/delusional as Cheney, he'd have popped up in the 70's arguing for a nuclear attack on Cambodia.
Hey when it counts Rand, Cheney and 90 plus percent of the "libertarians" will rally for the one percent and the GOP in coming elections.
Paul not supporting the Iraq War is a given though -- at any rate his comments make Cheney look foolish.
Tonight before you go to bed imagine Cheney in the corner of your room staring at you with his beady eyes and licking his lips.
