For some people it probably works. Some men/women have the need to feel like they have their own thing. In my case, it wouldn't work. We actually tried that early on, and the wifey couldn't control herself, and the bank account always went to $0. Now with me watching every dollar, we're more responsible.
Married 9 years. We have shared acct. I end up turning in a lot of receipts for work where I get cash so I usually keep a little on the side for myself. Otherwise we each have our own credit cards. I make all the money while she is housewife and warden for 3 kids.
About to celebrate my year anniversary and we just set up a joint account. It was a b**** paying the mortgage with separate accounts. We just took turns. I’ll like keep a little bit of money in my personal account for me time.
Since we got married ,wife took over my personal finance, often I would be on my knees : " honey can you please allow me to buy this? "
