I watched the pre game show here in Denver and they interviewed Gary. They asked him about his time in Houston and he said he is proud of the way his guys "always worked their tails off and battle fought out there every game".........
first off most of the starters didn't even play tonight on both sides of the ball so I'm not reading much into this game other than evaluating players trying to make the team
Savage throws a nice ball. The last string of o-line didn't give him a lot of help though. Brown sure is making his case with another week of big plays. That was impressive.
The good news is that none of our QB's looked as bad last night as Peyton Manning and Joe Flacco did.
Nix is pretty lucky he didn't end up blowing up his knee on this one. Dirty play by Denver here very similar to how Cushing got his knee blown up against the Jets a few years ago. Supposed to be highly illegal, but no flag.

Pointed this out last night. Watch Nix (92) on the top of the screen. The bad news is that those guys aren't playing to prove anything or earn a starting job. Their only real concern is staying healthy. Preseason performances are irrelevant for established players, and their performances have no impact on anything. Our QBs' performances will determine who starts the season, which directly the course of the season. It kind of matters how they do.
Or maybe you only freak out about the performance of some players and don't freak out about others. If you look at the plays called, the Texans were super conservative when Mallett and Hoyer were in...there's not much either could have done to look stellar when every play is dink and dunk. Mallett and Hoyer have mediocre performances with dink and dunk play calling in pre-season and the world is coming to it's end, Others have poor performances and it's no big deal....interesting.

Was it really bad playcalling? Or bad decision making by the QB's? There's a deep/long WR on nearly every pattern they run... its up to the QB's to make that read and make that throw. If they consistently only throw the short or medium throws... it gets perceived as "conservative" play calling... when really it could still be all on the QB. Hoyer missed Deandre deep last week... and BOB (based on his comments above) would obviously like them to take more shots deep (which is within the scope of the plays being called in).
Hard to say really. Could be one, could be both. I don't have access to the all 22 so it's really hard to tell. Either way, Mallett did a good job of getting the ball out quickly and was the only QB on the team not sacked and he didn't give up any turnovers. If he had at least attempted to go deep I'd have been more pleased with his performance, but it wasn't really bad.
Its not that hard... they're not all going out for 5 or 10 yard routes. Guys are going deep. If they have one-on-one coverage, or have the safety beat over the top, you need to have a QB who can make that throw (along with a line that can block long enough for the play to develop). On the flip side, no offense will ever be all about everybody going downfield for long routes... at least not in this era. Short/intermediate throws often are far more integral to an overall offense's success.
It IS that hard if you can't see if they are open, can't see if they have a safety beat over the top. Without the right film, you'd just be guessing. Probably a safe bet that it happened at least once to each of them, but which read was it when it happened?
Basically refuting that it was nothing but dink and dunk play calling. Guys go deep all the time in this offense.
That doesn't really refute that, if the deep runner was the 3rd option then it's not the same as if it was the first read.
B'OB is obviously just freaking out about some players and not others. someone tell him it's not the end of the world
