Why? He may not be very versatile, but he's damn good at what he does and props to the Hawks for seeing that. He is what really puts them over the top.
They call that "specialists," not all-stars. This is a guy who takes a whopping EIGHT shots a game. EIGHT?? If he makes the all-star team, this has got to be the most absurd choice of all time. We call fans stupid for some of their picks, but the coaches have lost their minds. Winning matters, and I appreciate winning teams, like the Hawks are. But this game celebrates individual players, and their individual greatness.
Kemba would've been my first choice (as a BC player) to replace Wade but I think he's going to be out so.. My vote would go to Knight. I think Milwaukee deserves some recognition in the game. It'd be good for their efforts to keep the team in Milwaukee as well.
Someone like Korver who contributes more to winning than Melo doesn't deserve it? Watch the Hawks games.
That's poor logic. You're comparing a guy who's asked to carry the weight as a franchise player vs a guy who's asked to take 8 shots a game having someone create his shots for him (how many of his shots are unassisted). Korver is a great role player. If we have an all-star game for best role players, he'll be on it. According to your logic, Green from the Warriors should be on the team over half of the West reserves b/c the Warriors wouldn't be where they are without him.
Big man defensive specialists make the ASG all the time. The Hawks' offense is CRAZY good when Korver is on the floor, and butt cheeks when he sits. He's a huge reason for their success.
JVG and Lowe talked about this on his podcast today. Both said he is an all star and went into more in depth detail of how much Korver actually "bends" a defense and makes it easier for everyone else despite how little he shoots. Lowe also posed a question, if you swapped Korver for Melo would the Hawks be better or worse? They both agreed the Hawks would be worse. Though they did say NY would also be worse off with the swap too.
I never said he's not integral to the Hawks' winning ways. He's a crucial part of their offense, and ball movement. But that's not what the all-star game is about. But this is a game that celebrates individual greatness. There's a reason guys on losing teams (really bad losing teams) have made the all-star game because of their individual brilliance.
If you mean Rodman or Ben Wallace, they do their fair share offensively (offensive rebounds, put backs...). They do more than just one category offensively or defensively. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/greendr01/on-off/2015/ Here's Draymond Green on/off. What's your point? Is he not an all-star then over Westbrook? Durant? Paul? Liliard? Aldridge?

Tyson Chandler was the first person who came to mind. Who's the Westbrook/Durant/Paul-level all-star in your mind that Korver would be taking a spot from? Brandon Knight? Love? Give me a break.
Maybe he can be on a team of Fantasy Basketball All-Stars, which you seem to be advocating for anyway.
Korver shouldn't be an all-star he's a very good role player. Why not stop there lets make a case for Draymond Green while we are at it. I think you could make a case for Knight over Korver
I think one can make a case for either. (I believe the person originally arguing against Korver in this thread is advocating for Vucevic).
