POWER RANKINGS #1 Philadelphia (3-0) Last week: 29 Pace: 103.2 (1), OffRtg: 106.6 (7), DefRtg: 102.1 (17), NetRtg: +4.5 (9) As crazy as this seems, maybe it's just the model for when you change your ratio of mid-range attempts to 3-point attempts from 1.7 (last season) to 0.8 (this year). Brett Brown is letting his team push the ball and shoot early in the clock. But ultimately, they're taking the right kinds of shots, getting to the basket a lot more than they did under Doug Collins too. And they're shooting pretty well at the basket. This week: vs. GSW, vs. WAS, vs. CLE, @ CLE #3 Houston (3-0) Last week: 6 Pace: 97.5 (17), OffRtg: 108.5 (5), DefRtg: 94.7 (4), NetRtg: +13.8 (1) It remains to be seen if the twin tower combination is ever going to work (Dwight Howard and Omer Asik are a minus-1 in 34 minutes together), but the Rockets' single-tower lineups are functioning just fine thanks to Francisco Garcia's hot shooting (10-for-20 from 3-point range) off the bench and that James Harden guy. Two games against the Clips this week could be telling for both teams. This week: @ LAC, @ POR, vs. LAL, vs. LAC
That -1 from the twin towers once again suggests to me that the Rockets have got to be more flexible about those 15 minutes or so a game that they'd like to play the twin towers. For instance, when playing the Mavs, they should have played the TT lineup against Dalembert and Blair, and played small ball against Dirk. The Rockets don't have to start the twin towers if the matchups aren't favorable, and they don't need to start them to give Asik sufficient minutes.
Part of the blame falls with our coaching staff. They didn't know how to prepare our team for the first half, and this year? Same old same old! Old habits die hard. Code: Team Average Margin by Quarters 2013 2012 1st +2.0 -0.6 2nd -1.7 +0.9 3rd +6.0 +1.9 4th +4.3 +0.8
yeah always blame the coaching staff for everything bad and never give them any credit for anything good
My bad! I blame the fans who prepared our players for the games. And I give full credit to our coaching staff for turning the team around at half time.
Wow These 4 games will give us an idea where we are for a variety of reasons. I believe we can go 3 for 4.
Isn't this more telling that the coaching staff is doing a good job? No one knows how a team is going to scheme before a game, but winning 3rd and 4th quarters means they are making the necessary adjustments...
If you don't think Rockets were ill-prepared for the game, maybe you can provide us with an explanation as to why Rockets are the Jekyll & Hyde of two halves. They are doing a fantastic job at the half time! Preparing for the game? Not so much and it has been going on for more than a year.
are you talking about just the jazz game or all three reg season games? are you complaining that they had a bad first half and an amazing second half? would you rather they have 2 mediocre halves
Could you be putting to much stock into the second night of a back to back at serious altitude? Utah historically has the biggest home court advantage in the NBA. It is North of 12 wins year in and year out. Number two? Denver of course.
All three games and 82 games from last season. You are changing the subject.... Adelman's Timberwolves Code: Team Average Margin by Quarters 2013 2012 1st +15.7 +1.4 2nd -2.3 -0.7 3rd +2.3 -2 4th -7.3 -1.3 For more than a year, his team's best quarter was always the first. It's a sign of great preparation for the game. This year? off the chart! Adelman's in game adjustments? Terrible!
what are the first half scores for the first and second regular season games? I don't remember the rockets being blown out
Well, unfortunately this is happening for more than a year now. Weren't some people complaining about the slow start in many games last season? By looking at the margin differences by the quarters this year, the trend is still there.
