so. Rockets2K and Moe are on my back for being a fluffy/wimp poster of late. do I have anything meaty to say....is their claim. I mean, my thought is....I want to know what Dr of Dunk really has to say. Am I the only one, or do others notice Dr of Dunk is holding back his take, except when defending Hakeem! so, let's talk. Pound the ball inside versus getting fluffy I really like seeing Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and TMac's version of being fancy. (<font size=1>Being raised in Illinois...I also like seeing my Illinois boys Deron and Shaun...did y'all see that left-handed around his head to the otherside pass my Shaun recently....it's called Peoria, Illinois...don't tell me we don't teach fundamentals in USA and don't tell me Indiana has better basketball than Illinois....Shaun is Cuttino's PG ...YAH ME....sup for Deron is a damn Sloan kid now...I'm so conflicted... grrrr</font>) <img src="http://www.hoopsvibe.com/IMG/Shaun_Livingston-arton21065-240x240.jpg"> ...um,,,where was I. my point is do you get fancy with offense like Magic, Bird, Shaun and Deron or do you pound it inside. I'm not even asking about strategy or what you would do as a coach...I'm asking what do you like personally. I love Magic and Bird....and TMac. I Love Moses, Hakeem and Yao. I love Yao more. I'm throwing that ball to Yao. I want him to decide the game. I don't even really care if Yao wins the game or not, I enjoy seeing him decide the game. It is his ball, as far as I'm concerned. Let him decide. I have fun watching it. Damn... I love it! I am throwing that ball to Yao. TMac is throwing that ball to Yao, too, if you haven't noticed. What are you going to do? Argue with me? bring it!
I think you have to do a little of both....with zone defenses allowed, teams can double Yao before he gets the ball, and that is a big defensive advantage. DD
The first option when Yao is on the court is to pound it inside. It's a higher percentage shot and he could pick up fouls on the opposing centers. However, if TMac or anyone else has got a shot and Yao is heavily covered, take it. If you care about your team winning, you'd want them to get the best shots possible. I love watching playmakers like TMac do their thing on the outside, but I'd rather see them attack the basket or pound it in to the big man, Yao. The thing about Bird and Magic was that they also had an inside option they could throw it in to whenever their shots weren't falling. Magic had Kareem and Bird had Parish or McHale.
yeah, that's what my girl thanks too. we need a little bit of pounding it inside and getting fancy/fluffy. question is ... what do YOU like!
I want to everyone to throw it to Yao until about the 3 minute mark of the 4th quarter; and if the game is still close, I want to see Tmac take over. Only a big man like Dream was creative enough to have the ball in his hands at the end of close games. Kareem had Magic Wilt had West Moses had Dr J Russell had Cousy Shaq had Kobe and Wade Dream needed Glide for the second one A meal wouldn't be a meal without your meat and potatos(Yao), but you need your dessert(Tmac) to make you meal trully complete.
We can win a title with Yao in the post, defense and threes. But we can dominate the league if both of them play up to their potential.
naw thats classic HP style. glad to see my offcuff crack helped encourage you . me personally, Im biased in that I grew up with Rockets teams that have always depended on bigmen to hodl the team up. Thats waht I like to see...good fundamental basketball...strong post players, good defense and good passing from the post. Let the big man demand the extra attention and then watch the offense move the ball around while the defense wildly scrambles tryin to get on the wide open shooters.....adn then top it off with a made three...or even catch and drive for the shorter shot. wahtever...I just love to see it go whichever way they can giventhe defense. That is why it is SOOO very importan to have a great outside threat to go with that great bigman.
yeah, that's what my girl says, too. so, y'all agree that basketball is a metaphor for life. I love this game. Houston is blessed to have Yao (meat and potatoes) and TMac (fancy dessert).
that makes me hungry. I would like to cook but I need to go to the grocery store to get some meat and taters. stew sounds really good right now.
in the basketball is a metaphor for life angle to the thread...and you being the coach...so, are you suggesting we need to make a trade?
Why not do both? A few reasons here: 1. By mixing it up, it will make opponents' game plans much much more difficult. Opponents' headcoach will scratch their heads everytime having to choose between protecting the inside pounding or protecting from some fancy plays 2. Yao can benefit from a little break. Many people think Yao gets tired from running. Well, maybe, but it is certainly more tiring wrestling all game long with another big player, or two, or three. If you ever wrestle, even recreationally, you know what I meant. Heck, if you ever play Tug-A-War, you know what I meant. 3. It is a fallacy that Yao has trouble doing fancy plays. It is not due to Yao that Rox plays static, but it is JVG who loves to use the same plays over and over. Obviously the same plays work, so JVG (who, as you know, is the most creative) does not find the need to be fancy. For Yao, it doesn't take much to do the fancy, as his steps are so large, he only needs to walk from place to place. 4. Fancy allows Yao to not be double-teamed or triple-teamed all the time. It is really hard to have 2-3 players follow one guy around if the guy is moving constantly. Not the case when Yao only stands in place and tries to pound it in.
Well since you asked. I would pound it into Yao whenever the other team is not doubling or playing zone BEFORE the entry pass. If they are doubling Yao or running a zone, I would get Tmac to penetrate and set up the rest of the team or finish himself. Also, when Yao goes out, I would push the ball more to give the other team a different look. Personally, I think the Rockets are fairly easy to scheme against....they are failry simplistic on offense. It would not hurt to run a bit more PnR with Yao at the top of the key when teams are fronting him or running zone, just to give a different look. So, to summarize. Option 1 - Pound it into Yao Option 2 - Let Tmac Penetrate when opponents double Yao early. DD
Pound it inside, no doubt. I want to see damn defense get scared when Yao gets the rock inside. With his back at the basket and seeing through everything, it's fun to see how defense scurry around like cockroaches. Defense cant foul him too given that he is such a exceptional FT shooter for his size. We just need Yao to master it. He has evolve into an offensive machine now. The next step of his evloution is to be the guy closing the deal for us when the game is on the line.
tell that to Popovich...and we didn't even have our fancy dessert! WE DESTROYED POPOVICH"S "scheming" I love this game! yeah...and we might need some fresh raw sushi at point guard, too. btw: my girl and I are debating whether Head is an appetizer or an after-dinner cocktail, or a little bit of both.
well I would like to trade my empty fridge for one full of meat, taters, carrots, onions and whatever else you want in the stew. find a way to interpret that one!
You always look to the post first...especially when Yao is in the game. I cant cant even imagine not looking to the post first when Yao is on the floor...unless you are the oppossing center and you are being guarded by some 7'5" guy named Yao. Let Yao decide if he has a shot and if not he can see the floor like no one else so let him decide where the ball should go. He does have one of the higher basketball IQ's in the league IMO.
