Anyone ever been? It involves landing in Ulaanbaatar. Traveling to Lake Hovsgol and camping. Camping at Zuun Nuur. Then Horgo Terhiin National Park. Then Kharakhorum. Then Hongoryn Els Sand Dumes. Then Havtsgait Petroglyphs and Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. Then Yol Valley and the Flaming Cliffs.
Did a Racing the Planet race through the Gobi back in 2009 and flew into Urumqi. Unfortunately can't tell you much about the city since spent most of the time in the Gobi. Part of the race went through the Flaming Mountains near Turpan (not sure if the same as the Flaming Cliffs) but can tell you it is hot, 122 degrees hot. If you plan on doing some hiking, just remember that Mongolia is pretty high so you will probably feel it depending on the intensity level. Anyways, DM your e-mail if you want more info and I can send you some pics.
