@Mr.Pringles @H-Town Melo Just for clarification: You do not use the MLE for all draft picks. It's only in play for 2nd rounders. You are limited to a 2 year contract for 2nd rounders UNLESS you use the MLE (or part of it) to sign the player. So if you want to get a guy locked up and hold his bird rights you need to dip into the MLE if it's a second rounder.
Not a bad idea. I like the intrigue of Nunally's upside. That said, roster spots are running out Harden Paul Gordon Capela Tucker Melo Ennis Melton Nene Hartenstein (allegedly) Ryan Anderson Michael Carter Williams Onuaku Zhou Gerald Green That's 15. So if they want anyone else on the team they need to clear some guys out.
DeMarre Carroll would be interesting. Brooklyn has a couple of players that will likely be bought out but they still have to field a team.
He would definitely be some nice depth to have if he's 100% again. I didn't watch him at all last year, but his underlying metrics looked solid.
If you are looking for potential buyout candidates, look at likely "non playoff teams" that have Vets that are on the last year of their contract. Guys like Tyson Chandler and Demarre Carroll. Generally guys with multiple years on their deal don't get bought out. Also, keep an eye on the Clippers. They have a roster crunch. They have 16 guaranteed guys. That roster will be in constant flux. Will the Nets buyout Farried after that Denver trade? Possible.
Why do we have so many people here thinking Ariza and Luc are buyout candidates?? That literally makes no sense whatsoever. They're signed to one year deals, and in Luc's case, it's $4.2M. That's peanuts. In Ariza's case, he wouldn't leave a single penny on the table, so wouldn't Phoenix rather GET something for the money they're spending? Nobody is buying either of these guys out.
Morey FINDS guys like Carroll, Whiteside, Covington, Ish Smith, etc... if the coach wont play them there's not much he can do about it. I credit Morey for finding so many talented players as opposed to calling him out for not keeping them. If they cant crack the rotation they cant show what they've got.
By not signing him to the rookie minimum (2 year contract), we avoid him becoming an Arenas Free agent after 2 years. Think Jeremy Lin or Omer Asik where the player comes off his rookie deal but his team doesn't have Full Bird Rights on him, only Early Bird. By using MLE money to sign him, we can sign him to a 3 year deal so that when he becomes a free agent then he's a Restricted Free Agent.
Rockets have been connected to Shumpert for a couple years now and he’ll definitely be bought out. Unfortunately he probably won’t be in great shape after tanking with the Kings. Carroll has a chance of being bought out, but the Nets might be able to get a second rounder or two instead. Don’t see any other interesting possibilities. I guess there’s a slim chance Ariza gets bought out but it’s very unlikely.
