Seems like we will have an excess of talent again (oh darn) and the cuts will be hard, since at one time it was possible to trade them instead of drop. The following list is what I think the 15 should be (I am assuming Carl will be signed) 1. Carl Landry 2. Tracy McGrady 3. Yao Ming 4. Shane Battier 5. Rafer Alston 6. Steve Francis 7. Luis Scola 8. Aaron Brooks 9. Steve Novak 10. Mike Harris 11. Brent Barry 12. Deke 13. Chuck44 14. Donté Greene 15. Joey Dorsey I seriously doubt they will keep Mike Harris over head but I think it might be the best basketball move. The fact that another team won't pick him up, and they owe him nothing compared to Head's 2 million seals that deal. But he is on MY 15. Starters in bold, inactives or D Leagues in red. Post YOUR 15!
Going by past trades e.g, Kirk Snyder and JR Smith were both traded for a TE+2nd round pick around this time. Head might be the most tradeable player before training camp starts. Morey's going to have to move quick though. By the end of Summer League teams will just wait for players to be waived rather than trade. Chicago, Minnesota, Nets, and Suns all have a TE that can absorb Head's contract. Suns are the only ones over LT.
heres my roster if i had to play them at this very moment, knowing the talent that ive seen from them (no particular order) 1)rafer 2)jackson 3)brooks 4)tmac 5)francis 6)battier 7)barry 8)scola 9)landry 10)hayes 11)yao 12)deke inactive 13)greene 14)dorsey 15)novak this leaves me cutting the following 3 players from our current 18 man roster head harris woods ------------- but probably mid way through the season id insert greene and dorsey into the active list replacing deke and hayes or bjax and hayes
Yao T-mac Scola Batter Alston Landry (sign with part of MLE) Barry (sign with BE) SF3 Brooks Dorsey Greene Hayes Mutombo 2 spots left: I will use the left MLE (if possible) for a free agent just before the camp (such as Nachbar, Maurice Evans, Matt Barnes etc.). if it doesn't work, I will trade Jackson+Novak+Head for a swingman; if it doesn't work either, trade them for TE (to lower our salary under luxury tax). if it doesn't work either, keep novak and jackson, cut head (we have his team opinion and have not execute yet)
1. Yao 2. TMac 3. Scola 4. Battier 5. Alston 6. Landry 7. Deke 8. Brooks 9. Dorsey 10. Barry 11. Chucky 12. Head 13. Novak 14. Steve Francis 15. Bobby J NBDL- Greene Gotta keep Bobby J for trade value. $6.1m expiring contract should be able to get something. Luther Head should also be able to be packaged with him, along with Franchise's expiring $2.6m. Together their contracts total almost $11m, which is plenty to get somebody midseason. After you make that trade, you bring up Donte Greene to fill a roster spot.
1. Carl Landry 2. Tracy McGrady 3. Yao Ming 4. Shane Battier 5. Rafer Alston 6. Steve Francis 7. Luis Scola 8. Aaron Brooks 9. Steve Novak 10. Bobby Jackson 11. Brent Barry 12. Deke 13. Chuck Hayes 14. Donté Greene 15. Joey Dorsey PG Alston/ Francis/ Brooks/ Jackson SG TMac/ Barry SF Battier/ Greene/ Novak PF Scola/ Landry/ Hayes C Yao/ Mutombo/ Dorsey But we need to trade Hayes and Head to get another wing player for now, or trade exception or something thats valuable so when trade deadline comes we can give Jackson and whatever value that we got for Head and Hayes for last piece to Championship! Just like the Celtics did this past season everyone knew they were going to the Finals so everyone wanted to sign thats how they got Sam!
A little early for this assuming there might be more left in the offseason, don't ya think? Oh well, it's all in good fun... McGrady Yao Battier Skip Scola Landry Barry B-Jax A Brooks Novak Greene Deke Dorsey Chuck Wagon Francis This is all contingent on the offseason being over for us basically, of course. I have a feeling, however, that it is far from it...
Do you want morey to buy out bjax's contract? It's 6m, thanks God his contract has just one year left, but don't you consider the expiring contract a valuable bid? What's more, the 15 guys are all capable ,some are talented. But Adelman can just assign 12 of them to one game,so the talented rookies like Greene may not have enough time to adjust to nba games. As a result , Greene may be always a rookie because he may have little time on the court. Steve Novak is a talented shooter, but he has hardly got oppotunities to play games, with the barren Van as our coach.Even though Ric is a coach that is willing to give younsters more chances, but he would have to keep the talented rookies on the bench because of our suffecient rosters .After all ,Ric can't leave SF3 on the bench .To avoid our rosters being wasted,we must trade some rosters who seems useless for us yet valuable for other teams .bjax's expiring cotract may be more valuable in feb ,but we don't have enough roster room to retain him, so trading him right now should be a smart choice for morey.
Players sent down to the D-League still count towards the 15-man roster. Someone else on your list has to go.
You cannot designate a player to the NBDL if he is not on your 15-man. And you lose his rights too, so he can then sign with any NBA team that wants him. My guess is that Head gets traded for cash/picks. Greene will be the third string 2-guard unless he really sucks it in the summer league and practice, at which point he'll be a season-long NBDLer and Battier will have third string SG duties with Harris behind him for the SF minutes. Francis and Jackson will be benchwarmers that are kept as expirings, and Woods and Hayes will be gone in some form or fashion. Deke will be the 15th man. (For those counting, Yao T-Mac Rafer Battier Scola Landry Barry Brooks Dorsey Greene Harris Novak Jackson Francis Deke. 15)
right now: PG-Alston/Brooks/Jackson SG-T-Mac/Barry/Jackson SF-Battier/Barry PF-Scola/Landry/Hayes C-Yao/Mutombo/Dorsey IR: Greene, two of novak, head, or francis I'm hoping they can still get mo evans with either the 2.2 mil TE or part of the MLE after inking landry. And hayes, jackson, brooks, head are all trade bait to me to get the 3rd scorer they need.
1) Rafer Alston (Starting PG) 2) Tracy McGrady (Starting SG; Rotation SF) 3) Shane Battier (Starting SF) 4) Luis Scola (Starting PF; Rotation C) 5) Yao Ming (Starting C) 6) Bobby Jackson (Rotation PG/SG to start the season; likely traded) 7) Brent Barry (Rotation SG/SF) 8) Carl Landry (Rotation PF) 9) Chuck Hayes (Rotation PF/C) 10) Aaron Brooks (Backup PG; Rotation PG/SG by end of season) 11) Luther Head (Backup SG; likely traded) 12) Steve Francis (Backup PG/SG; likely traded) 13) Dikembe Mutombo (Backup C; saved for playoffs) 14) Steve Novak (Backup SF/PF; IR) 15) Donte Greene (Backup SF; will spend some time in the D-League) 16) Joey Dorsey (Backup PF/C; will spend some time in the D-League) Obviously, either someone won't be re-signed (Landry or Deke) or someone will be traded (most likely Luther if before training camp). Barring a trade, I doubt the Rockets sign any more outside free agents this summer.
How about Head, Harris, and Woods to Cleveland for Damon Jones? He's an expiring contract too. And Cleveland gets back a shooter and can cut the other two guys. Gives us another expiring to move along with BJax at the trade deadline.
This is what I want and what I think would be good for our team. Starters 1) Yao Ming 2) Luis Scola 3) Shane Battier 4) Tracy McGrady 5) Rafer Alston Bench 6) Brent Barry 7) Carl Landry 8) Joey Dorsey 9) Donte Greene 10) Deke Mutombo 11) Bobby Jackson (I'd actually would like to see us aquire Stephon Marbury, if possible *w/o thinking abuot prices and stuff*) 12) Chuck Hayes 13) Aaron Brooks 14) Steve Francis 15) Steve Novak
Starters: Rafer Alston Tracy McGrady Shane Battier Luis Scola Yao Ming Bench: Carl Landry Steve Francis Brent Barry Chuck Hayes Mike Harris Aaron Brooks Dikembe Mutombo Inactive: Donte Green Joey Dorsey Luther Head I want Bobby Jackson GONE Novak cut as well
Neither of those things is going to happen. Bobby's large expiring contract is the single BEST trade asset the Rockets have to make a major move at the February trade deadline, so (unless another team can knock the Rockets' socks off by offering up a great player this summer) Bobby will be on the team when the season starts. The Rockets also JUST exercised their team option on Novak, so it's obvious that they have no intention of cutting him.
