I would support statehood if it came with terms requiring their government to fix their ****. Adopting 50 billion in debt shouldn't be high on our priority list.
Not allowing them in based on likely party affiliation is the most asinine reason I can think of for denying Puerto Rico statehood. If there's a definitive benefit to the people of PR and to the country as a whole, then they should be allowed the opportunity if they really want it. I would presume they would have to completely restructure their government and have to live up to certain markers set by Congress. I don't know all of the nuances about the situation so I'm not going to pretend to know what the problem is.
Missed the point. Wasn't about them being republican it was that they were against making D.C. A state
