Based on his performances so far, would you consider resigning him? (Mods please lock the other thread, I messed up on the poll, really sorry)
He will want more than 10 mill, I think . Rox won't be able to sign him for that max money yet, so give him the years.
keep artest and take yao and tmac out and sign 2 free agents that are are more athletic and durable maybe dwade or bosh/amare
This is a no brainer. He should be extended before he becomes a free agent. I think he has 5 good years left. A 5 year $50 million contract would be a good deal for both sides.
Take Yao out? Please tell me you are kidding. He has been the best player this season and has been the last 2 years
I say you sign Artest now to a 1yr deal at the max. Giving him the max being the only reason he would except a small term deal... You do it NOW. Tell the team, the coach, and the fans, you are giving this group a 2 year no questions asked window and will address the performance in 2010 and make decisions going forward at that point. Also, if you get lucky, McGrady and Artest (who just got the max) agree to 1yr minimum contracts allowing Les to bring in a big name free agent. Then you bird right McGrady/Artest the following year. Les pays luxury tax out the ass but as long is its raining championships no sweat.
Give him long contract, but don't over pay. Give him security, but not by putting the team in a bind. 5 year contract with 8~10 million sounds about right.
Yes 5 years at 7.5 Mil /year. i think he likes it hear in Houston. Tracy will have to resign at a 50% drop in earnings or be traded. Improvements will be made using or disposing of Hayes, Head , Alston etc A move for a big star who is a leader should be in the works. Present needs- a renewed Tracy anda back up Center
Resign him, he is essentially the Rockets only hope of advancing in the playoffs. I would not resign TMac or sign him for much, much less so the Rockets can bring in some young athletic players.
Rons on 8.4 mill this year right? I would think that if we resign him, it'll be for a raise (which is what he'll be looking for). I think it all depends how the playoffs go - if we make the third round (or more) then he'll get $12+million If we get bundled out in the first round, we're looking at a fire sale in H-town anyway - and McGrady's 23mill expiring will be sent to bring back something and Artest most likely traded for draft picks.
4 yrs 10.5 per, trade shane this summer for te or a younger swing guy that a little cheaper. Then you go into 2010 with Artest, brooks, landry, yao a young backup swing and a lot of money to push for one of the big free agents.
i think we should wait until after the playoffs to decide. Real stars step up in playoff time. If he steps up consistantly then yes, if i was les, i'd give him the 8 million first year and give it annual max raise for 4 years.
