word. grew up right down the road. was young to remember what it was like before but i do remember we went there a lot more than since its change. i havent been there in at least 3 years. frankly its a joke how much it costs now.
It was the kind of place you took an out of town friend to instead of the more turist type places that they would say was the high point of their vacation. If you took someone not from the area to Kema back then they felt like they had the chance to experience something real and authintic. Everyone likes to go to the out of the way places that the average turist does not know anything about when they are on vacation. That was Kema. I used to go there decades ago before they built the bridge. I still go there to buy fresh seafood when I'm in town but I think I'm actually in Seabrook and not Kema when do that. I've been on the boardwalk but your right, it's not like it was.
This is just going to be the Kemah boardwalk but in Galveston right? I agree Kemah is overpriced crap now. I also thought this was a pier for strip clubs and I was going to be super excited.
Seems more like a copy of the Santa Monica pier to me (single pier, roller coaster, ferris wheel) as opposed to the more boardwalk like Jersey Shore style areas.
went to Kemah Boardwalk once, never returned. everything about it felt like a moneygrab. the way Deckard describes how it used to be really makes me long for it, even tho i never visited Kemah before.
dame the bolts are gonna come loose and it's gonna start rolling up 45 to the mainland and it will be too strong for anyone to stop it and i'll get squished
While I don't plan on visiting the pleasure pier anytime soon, I think this is fantastic for Galveston. Nothing wrong with creating jobs, and giving parents someplace to take the kids. I hope it's a big success.
