Why are carnivals and piers always put together? Never get to see a pier and basketball court or pier and subway.

The water is clean enough. The only reason it's brown is because the currents carry tons of silt from the Mississippi River mouth over to our side of the coast.

Galveston will never get crystal clear water.

except that is a pretty impossible task considering the natural conditions as to why the beach/water is like that

That's a pity. Growing up, I went there all the time, going out into the bay to go fishing or sailing. There were numerous seafood joints, where you could get a cheap beer or soda, and shrimp so fresh they would melt in your mouth. It was a real place. Now? It's an amusement park. If you can't see the difference, I just feel sorry for you. With all due respect.

My boss grew up and still lives in the area. She pretty much told me the same thing just last week.

The more you try to change anything into a money-making venture, the more it usually ends up sucking.

Thanks. It's not my fault that some folks here are simply too young to remember what much of the coast in the Houston area used to be like. To be clear, I think the pier is a good thing for Galveston. I just wish someone else was behind it.

I remember going to Kemah as a kid to one of the fresh Seafood joints that had a wheel to spin for a free dinner.

We watched the Christmas boat show with all the boats lit up.

Also used to go to SW Tookeys down there...loved that place.

They still do that, DD. It's cool. I have friends and relatives that live and work in the area, so I've kept an eye on it. As much as I'm complaining about Kemah, and it deserves it, the Clear Lake area is one of the few areas in and around Houston that I'd consider living in, were I forced to move back from Austin to my hometown, Houston.

Way to make yourself sound exactly like an old fart.

As for the guy who said "just spend 60m and clean up the water".... Please explain how 60 million dollars will magically stop the Mississippi from running into the gulf. I like the idea of clear water in Galveston, do you have a plan?

So you would prefer that I call tinytexxx an ignorant *******? Would that better fit your limited worldview? I could call you a young, uneducated, constipated, lowlife chump, but I don't play that way. You'll have to look elsewhere, kid.
