If the texans duplicate their offensive output (27 points/game) pre-Schaub injury in 2011, then it doesn't matter who's getting the TDs. besides, if he's "noodle arm" and can't make a 10 yard fade throw what good is adding Plax to the team?
So does signing Plax as a #3 essentially force our hand to release LeStar or one of the 2 rooks?? My concern is Holiday just won his roster spot...
They could replace Bryant Johnson with Plax. I don't see him doing much anyway. Not sure Holliday has won the spot yet; Kubes said as much. He'll have to keep it up over the next three weeks.
It doesn't. That's why I don't care if we get Plax or not. Schaub of maybe Kubiak do not like throwing fades.
I don't buy the arguments that he couldn't help. He would probably be the second best wide receiver on the team. He could also hurt the team. The Texans have very good chemistry. They aren't choir boys, but don't need the distraction. He is not someone you want around young WRs.
so if Plaxico is that great why teams like Dallas (with red zone TD problems too) Patriots, and more teams have worked out Plaxico but havent signing him? why the Seahawks signed T.O instead of working out Plaxico? why the Jets released him, especially right now, that they dont have a WR#2., and the only passing threat is Santonio Holmes.
I think he would accept his role on the team. Why wouldn't he? I'm all for bringing him in. But like I said before teams are waiting for week 1 so the money isn't guaranteed. I guarantee that's the hold up with teams not signing him yet.
Whoa there, MF'er. One kickoff return for a TD doesn't automatically get you a roster spot, especially when you're too small to play WR. Holiday is a longshot at best. Kubiak has said so even after that TD.
I think he has a good shot but the guy can only do one thing and he's barely proven he can do that one thing on an NFL level.
With all the young talented WRs on this roster there is no way a 5'5 one-trick-pony gets a roster spot. Like Kubiak says, if you're going to make this roster as a kick returner only, you better be really special. If he returns 2 more for TDs this preseason, then we'll talk.
I'm all for the Texans upgrading any and every position up and down their roster. But that hasn't been the frame of this paticular discussion - it's been steeped in two primary things: a) fear that AJ is going to get hurt again and/or on the end-of-his-career decline; b) this peristent idea that our league-leading offense isn't, apparently, a league-leading offense and, most specifically, despite mounds of evidence to the contrary, Kevin Walter is single-handedly holding it back. It's a devestatingly effective offense *as currently construcetd.* It doesn't need Plaxico Burress.
I wouldn't say "no way". If there was "no way", he wouldn't even be on the field in preseason. But you have to wonder how good he has to be as a returner to justify a roster spot when you know he's not going to contribute in any other way. And I agree that you can't assume he's made the team just because of one return in one preseason game.
Edit: We have been abysmal in the kick returning game. Holliday has made the team. So he needs to have 3 touchdowns on returns in 4 games to make the team? LOL
Ideally, teams want a non-specialist as a returner. That way they don't have to waste a roster spot for somebody who only does returns. A specialist needs to be well above average at returning in order to justify a roster spot. At the very least, they need to give position players who are going to make the team opportunities to return and Holiday needs to show he's significantly better than them. Keshawn Martin was a returner in college, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a few reps. Maybe they put Danieal Manning back out on kickoffs.
I dunno if I'd go as far as to say the reason Holiday misses the cut is because of all the "young talented WRs" on this team. But I'm with the second portion of your post. If you're a return specialist but can't play WR, then it'll be hard to justify keeping you on the roster. Ain't that right, Jacoby Jones?
