I saw Monta transform into something unrecognizable. I believe the right system will be great for Josh Smith.
Smith is an average post defender but an excellent off-ball shot blocker, which we have already with Dwight. He can't shoot fts at a high enough percentage, can't shoot efficiently, and flat out completely ruins an offense. I watched a few Pistons games last season. He has a knack for ruining an offensive flow. His contract is probably the worse in the league right now.
What if we struck out on LeBron/Melo/Bosh/Lowry, how about a three way deal where we get Rondo and Smith, Detroit gets Lin, Boston gets Asik and a 1st round pick from Detroit. Would have to include one other small salary going out from the Rockets to be split into 2 "simultaneous trades" within $5 million of each other to make it work under the cap. Rondo/Beverly Hardin/Daniels Parsons/MLE player/#25 pick Smith/TJones Howard/DMo/MLE player
His defense is good. His off the ball defense is fantastic. He also runs the court better than anybody but Lebron at the PF. Offense killer? That's just stupid. He may not be efficient as a 1st option. But he'll definitely do as a 3rd or 4th option when the ball swings to the weakside of the court. The problem you guys have is judging players based their role with horrible teams. Josh smith will not have as many responsibilities on the Rockets that he has in Detroit. His role here would be play defense, block shots, and attack the rim. That's what we need

No word deal is imminent (yet) but Sacramento's well-known fondness for Rajon Rondo would help explain Kings' interest in his buddy JSmoove
— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) June 24, 2014
Let's see Rondo.....and.....Gay......and Cousins.....and JSmoove.....and....?????..... maybe they can sign Stuckey to play shooting guard so they'll have enough bricks to build that whole new arena they're building downtown.
Courtney Lee+Dwight Howard+Josh Smith=Friends I remember saying that when we had our mediocre team and we were figuring out on how to get Dwight and Josh Smith.
I actually don't think this would be bad for the Kings. If they could get Rondo and a good coach to cut down on the chucking, they could be dangerous. Rondo is exactly the sort of player guys like Rudy Gay, Josh Smith, and Demarcus Cousins need to be successful.
Lol he will be the 4th option no matter which way you put it, Harden, Parsons and Howard will all individually handle the ball much more then him, if we were to sign lowry, he would be the 5th offensive option. He will not just catch the be and just jack up shots, because we will not allow him to. The coach and players will tell him, pass to harden, pass to howard in the post, pass to Parsons comming off the screen. And he will do so because he is mentally incapable of understanding the english language. He is a very good defender, this whole "but but but his bbiq" stuf doesn't matter, he's a premire defender in this league. He's only 28, his body should hold up for the next 3 years of his contract, which the nexy 3 yeara is our biggest championship window with Howard. Smith is not a total handicapped player like asik offensively, he has good hands, he can really finish inside and off of assist and picl and rolls. The whole he's to bad offensively argument is BS, he is a upgrade offensively over any PF we have, and he is a huge defensive upgrade over any body on our team except Howard. So what if he's not a leader? Neither is Harden does that mean we shouldn't of traded for him? Sure we could use a leader, that doesn't mean we should pass up on Smith. We can't get a player like milsap or west, not with Lin or Asik and no cap space, plus neither can be our key perimeter defender like Smith can.
Talented defensive player but his contract sucks and he'd be much much better offensively if he had a better bball iq. That said, lotto picks and cap space havent worked for the Kings in the last decade. Might as well wing it.
Guys, I know this is crazy but I think these posters are serious about bringing Josh Smith in for $14m. They're not even joking a little bit. I think they may actually seriously be thinking about bringing in a guy who is worthless on offense (and doesn't know it) for $14m. A guy who is almost 30 and still relies on his declining athleticism to get his mediocre rebounding numbers. A guy who barely hits more than 50% from the FT line to start alongside our star C who hits roughly the same amount of FT's. The guy who has been the 3rd or 4th best offensive option on virtually every team in his life and never showed a willingness to adjust his shot selection accordingly. A guy who thinks he can hit the 3 and his career high for a season is 33% from 3pt land. And you know why? So he can play defense. For $14m. On a team with two MAX salary players which can create $19m in capspace this offseason, or even more in 2015. A defender for $14m when we're this close to the title. For a guy who has been considered an unfixable regrettable contract on both NBA teams he's been on. A guy who could have signed with good teams for a couple of million less per season, then he decided to take $14m/per to play on a bad team with Greg Monroe and Drummond. Brilliant.
Rondo with Gay and Smith? Sure. But I'm not sure if Franklin the Turtle and the Emotional Lesbian can get along.
Josh Smith, the the 14m PF that shoots 42% from field, 26% from 3 (and takes 3.4 per game) and 53% FT. If you want a defensive player whose actually efficient go grab Brandon Bass or something
If Josh Smith were coached by a guy like Rick Carlisle who would force him to play within his abilities, he would be a very good player.
Josh Smith has gone against his coach's advice for 10 seasons. The one season he kind of sort of listened was when he almost grabbed 10 rebounds per game and stopped taking 3pters. You know what his response was? He didn't want to play there anymore. There's no reason to believe anyone is going to pay a Josh Smith who has $14m paid per year.
By extension, if he played for a marshmallow pushover like McHale, he'd do anything he'd want, and McHale would occasionally stomp his foot on the sideline (bad idea: he's already hobbled, poor guy; maybe this is why?) and every time he heads for the locker room he'd have that bleak, no-sleep, I-just-got-Harden'd look on his face.
How could Sacramento afford to have Cousins/Smith/Gay/Rondo on the same squad? 2014/15 Contracts Rudy Gay 19.3 Million DeMarcus Cousins 13.7 Million Josh Smith 14.0 Million Rajon Rondo 13.0 Million That's 60 million tied up by just those 4 players. Now the cap is estimated to be 63 million next season so there cutting it close with just those 4. Now I'm not sure how it works with the luxury tax but I never viewed Sacramento as a team that would spend over the cap. Forget about the on court product, it seems unlikely that these 4 can make it to Sacramento just based off economics.
On second that, I think Sac should sign POTUS to play SG. He would fit right in with Rondo, Gay, Cousins, JSmoove. Here's what the offense would look like.
