How many full games with Josh Smith did you watch? Would rather have T. Jones than a guy that doesn't know when to shoot, jacks up a long jumper every time he's open and is getting paid double digits.

Rumored Sacramento-Detroit trade is "dead" according to a team source. If Smith were to be a rocket, in no way would he have the oppurtunity to jack up jumpshots all day, he would be the 4th option behind Harden, Howard and Parsons. Smith's offensive role would be reduced to nothing but catching and finishing under the bucket, which he is terrific at doing. He also is one of the best perimeter, and post defenders in the league. As we all agree, the lack of a perimeter defender, and defender to guard star PF's, is currently our biggest problem. Smith completely patches up that problem. Im saying, if we strike out on Lebron/Melo/Bosh/Love, why not try to sign Lowry, re-sign Parsons, and bring him over in a trade for Lin or Asik. Our PG position, PF possition, and our defense would be fixed.
Exactly. We would pay 10+mil for a guy and pray he solely sticks to playing D and doesn't continue to play the garbage on offense he did his whole career. Also, basketball-iq doesn't change at his age, he'll never be a great piece for a contending team.
No, your confused if your thinking we would acquire him for offensive purposes That is why we would pay 14 mill a year for 3 years. If we were to sign Lowry, Parsons, our cap space would be gone, for the next 3+ years anyway. If he fixes our biggest problem, you shouldn't be worried about how much he's getting paid.
Well elite perimeter, pick and roll, and post defense, is what he brings, and we desperately need that. He also brings his excellent ability to finish, solid rebounding and good passing. His contract is what it is, after we sign Parsons and possibly someone like Lowry, our cap space will be gone, and we need to win now. Smith's contract would be for les to worry about, not us. Free throw shooting would be a problem, but its one i think is worth dealing with for elite defense at the 3/4.
Wait. So it's Rudy Gay, Cousins, Josh Smith to lure Rondo? All I can say is: Bricks. Bricks Everywhere.

Here's how Sacramento could reunite Oak Hill buddies Rondo + Josh Smith. You have never watched Josh Smith play. He isn't going to be "4th option" whether or not that is where he stands in the depth chart. He'll constantly catch the ball, not look around and just jack it up. Rather than driving or passing or doing anything intelligent. The defense he brings is there, but far from as elite as you are talking and with his low bball iq expect the defense to get worse as the athleticism goes down with age (not too far away from the decline imo). He'll hurt way more on offense than anything he can bring on defense and more than another player like Smith we really need a bulldog/leader type vet (someone similar to Battier/West) if we strike out on the big names, who will keep players focused.
