    For honest criticism, I think the skies on your black and whites need some work. They come across as very flat, foggy, kind of a glare look. Again, just honest criticism, still solid shots overall.

    Pretty good for starters.

    The composition could have been better. Rule of thirds would have made things better in a few of those photos.

    I think it was because I was shooting in direct sunlight. It seems every website I go to urges one to stay away from shooting in midday.

    yea, unless you're using a polarizing filter or an ND filter you're always going to get a washed out sky when shooting midday and metering off anything besides the sky. too much contrast between the dark and light areas. dawn and dusk are when you get the best lighting.

    Yep. That was the problem.
    I find lighting the most difficult part of photography... imo.
