I don't understand what this whole debate is about. The Rockets are winning it this year. No need to talk about the Heat or Lakers unless it's about them losing to the good guys.

So the team needed a closer (Kobe), but didnt need talent (Kobe).

More logic fail. Thanks for trying.

    I agree with phil jackson!

as we know talent doesn't win!

paying the refs wins! As we know from the fakers wins and rings lol

joey crawford comes to mind lol

phil jackson obviously knows from expierience that talent doesn't win! Paying the refs do! Since we know the fakers have no real talent but are back to back champions!

Talent is important but its not 100% of the equation. Otherwise Kobe would have had 10 rings by now, and the Shaq-Kobe Dynasty wouldn't have broken up in the middle of it.

Phil has a point, the fact that his team has the most talent in the league but he doesn't win a ring every year proves it. Hell, the year the Celts won their championship ring proves it, the LA squad which one a year ago was basically the same one who lost to the Celts before.

And please stop with the PJ haters who think Phil rode MJ/Kobe/Shaq's coattails to a ring. Those guys hadn't won anything before PJ became their coach.

They needed Kobe the closer, they don't need Kobe to take over. They need him to keep LeBron from being cancer. So Kobe took over for a quarter, kept LeBron in check throughout the tournament, and they won the gold.

Kobe was arguably the only major addition between 2006 and 2008 squads.

The Celts may have won back-to-back titles if not for Garnett's injury.

KG was injured, but he played in the series and contributed.

on the flip side, Lakers may have won 3 straight titles already had both Arizza and Bynam not missed the Finals against the Celts 2 yrs ago

I agree on the post of kobe and etc most likely be nothing (ring wise) if it wasn't for phil jackson.

phil jackson makes the team! I'm willing to bet if he wasn't coach they wouldn't have won or have a chance to win again. That's why he came back. If he didn't come back I don't think they will finish very far.

phil jackson makes the lakers! Not kobe!

I was referring to the previous year when the Celtics got knocked out in round 2 while Garnett missed the entire playoffs.

Lakers won both regular season matches in 08-09 season before KG was injured. It's going to be a tougher fight than the Magic finals. But they'd still be the favorite.

Celtics were the team that benefited a lot from opposition's injury, not the other way around. Can they win 2 games without any 2 of their starters?

nice sarcasm there genuis  Obviously the players are the most important component in any team. However its not like PJ was sitting on the sideline picking his nose while Kobe and co. won games on their own either.

Again, I credit Kobe. I said for certain after he hit a big game deciding 3 in the 4th quarter against Spain in the gold medal game, that his presence meant something and he brought "it" to the team. But you really couldnt credit him with much ELSE than "intangibles" after he came in worn down, beat up and tired from the previous finals.

Anyways who cares, this is about Phil Jackson

He had to force the issue when the like of LeBron and Wade couldn't take over when the game's close. He's the defensive stopper while LeBron and Wade could play off passing lane and getting fastbreak dunks, no doubt their fg% was sky high.

It's more than intangibles. It's about defense and clutch. As coach K said, Kobe set the tone.

Talent doesn't always win, sometimes you just need to be on the beneficial end of the worst trade of the decade.

Just like they were the favorites in 2008, right?

welll duhhh who did you expect them to pick?

The Lakers de-throned the defending champion Spurs while the Celtics were taken to 7 by lower seeded teams like Atlanta and Cleveland and won only 1 road game (at Detroit) until they reached the NBA finals. Boston was basically playing a little better than .500 ball in the playoffs and were only winning home games

actually 2 wins in Detroit still, not that impressive heading into the finals.

Lakers swept their 1st round opponent who had 50 wins while Boston couldn't get by a team in the first round that had won 30 less games than them (37-45 for Atl)

And the Lakers would've won in 2008 if Ariza and Bynum weren't injured, whats your point?
