If Peyton didnt care about the money, and was ready to sign a cheap contract to be in a super bowl contender, why he didnt sign with the 49ers?

The previous year the 49ers were one playing away (Williams fumble on the punt) for going to the super bowl with Alex Smith as a QB, and they went to the superbowl last year.

Also guess what? the 49ers had a big cap space to sign Peyton too, but maybe not as big as the Denver Broncos.

    The NFL is changing.

You need a running QB to win.

doubtful, any pocket passer that gets hot can slice up a defense.

It came down to either having JJ Watt + Brian Cushing or a unknown quantity that was Peyton coming off injury where the franchise he helped build back into national relevance cut ties.

But seriously people need to let this particular aspect go, it is more pathetic then those that were blasting Kubiak and the Texans for not taking Vince Young or Reggie Bush 3 years after that draft.

he wanted to come here but we chose matt pro bowl legend schaub instead.

people dont want to admit they made mistake hence you see all the lies being told after the fact to excuse the texans for failing to sign peyton instead of schaub.

When he wanted to come here, he was coming off a neck injury and it was in doubt whether he would ever play again.

I don't mind that the Texans did not take a chance, what I do mind is that they seem to have settled on Schaub instead of trying to upgrade or bring someone in that could push him for the job.

    PLEASE?????

An undrafted QB from a pass happy school? I mean I like the guy, but you really think he is pushing Matt? From the 3rd QB spot?

Come on Clutch - I know you are a meandering settling apologist who is happy with mediocrity but this is silly even for you.

    You're wrong again.

I'm not settling for Schaub, just realistic about who's available given our salary cap and players we have to sign (Watt).

I would happily trade Schaub for Matt Ryan. But Matt Ryan ain't available.

Well at least you are making progress padwan.

The point is that we should be looking to upgrade at that position, not settle for undrafted QBs, or 3rd round backups.

    The NFL has changed.

It's a much more dynamic league.

so why are you defending matt schaub?

when was the last time a running qb won the superbowl?

I don't think Schaub sucks, but I don't think he's better than Russell Wilson, who can run.

The 2nd question is irrelevant because the league is constantly changing. If you want to have a roster of guys who would have won in the 80's, good luck.

RW pretty much does everything better than schaub. If he was a few inches taller he would have been the no. 1 pick in the draft. I think he is drew brees part 2.

What is the point of this question? Last year, a running QB in his 2nd year in the league was one 5 yard pass away from winning a Superbowl. It seems like plenty of evidence that running works. But aside from that, Aaron Rodgers a few years ago would probably count as a mobile QB, though not running in the style of a RG3 or Kaepernick.

But RW can run, therefore he WON'T win a Super Bowl.
