According to trade value chart, the equivalent of a 17th pick of the draft by the Texans. Of course, he was also paid near top-5 pick level. Factor that in, probably a borderline top-10 pick.

Bob McNair is trying to be the Steelers. He thinks he has a Noll or Cowher caliber coach but he doesn't. Wake up, Bob.

The problem isn't so much the picks, but them trying to convert these guys to other positions that they have never played or don't match up physically well to play.

A lot of our draft picks early on with Rick Smith I believe were mostly busts due to them starting from scratch personnel wise, as well as Rick's inexperience. As we've moved on over the years, each year gets better. You will always have busts and you will always find a late round gem.

Your starts are nearly always found in rounds 1-3. If you find them in later rounds you've hit paydirt. You can find good contributors in later rounds for backups and special teams play. Anything that sticks from round 6 and 7 is usually pure luck.

When you're converting players to new positions it takes a ton of time, and sometimes it simply won't work out. Nothing is ever sure fire. We also haven't had the best coaches either. With our garbage coaches of past, it either destroyed a players chance at ever being good or drastically slowed their development. I still feel like we're miss-using players at positions and holding onto to players too long.

You need to turn over the bottom half of your team all the time in order to find better talent and stronger depth.

We're about average draft wise as far as busts go. Our front office plays it safe too often and never takes chances, which leads to players that are great dropping off our draft boards. It also leads to fewer draft choices overall, with as little trading the do.

If they would secure more draft picks like the 49ers have done, and spent more wisely on contracts we would have a ton of flexibility, but we simply don't have that luxury right now. We've got too many vets we rely on to start to begin cutting ties with them.

Then why don't you do that? We anxiously await your findings.

    absolutely agree.

1st round is basically written out for you. Everybody knows who the top 30 or so players are.

the real skill in being a great GM is what happens after the 1st round.

just look at our picks this year after the first, only swearinger is playing and he's struggling badly.

we could have had the honey badger tyrone matheiu.

    smdh...

Then why are there so many 1st round busts? Who has proclaimed the Honey Badger a steal? Let him actually play first. Just based on your opinions, you were probably one of those people that called Duane Brown a bust after his rookie year and hated the JJ Watt pick. WHY DID WE NOT DRAFT NICK FAIRLEY?????

I disagree ever since Rick Smith and Kubiak taken over they are pretty good the first 2 rounds. Is Rounds 3 to 5 which has been a dissapointment... 6 and 7 rounds is such a crapshoot can't really fault them much. But the Sam Montgomery pick reminds me of the Royce White pick. Speaking of Morey he has only strike out twice with Dorsey and Morris.

Given that comparing between OLinmen between teams is difficult, let me just ask you this. Which well-run team run into as much trouble as the Texans when they suffer injuries?

When the Texans suffer an injury with one of their better players, you can SEE IT easily. Cushing out? Defense goes to hell. JJo hobbled last season? Chad Henne looked like Peyton Manning against us. All teams suffer to some extent when their starters go out. But other teams don't fall flat when it happens.

If Morey ran the Texans and has the same kind of success as he did with the Rockets, the Texans would be pure awesomeness. Morey's methods in football would work much better assuming he has the edge in talent evaluation, because NFL reward cheap contracts more than the NBA. Morey would be able to draft a bunch of average starters with the 3~5th round picks, some studs(and duds) with picks 1~2, and spend his entire time trying to find the next star QB. Heck, probably would've had so much cap money saved up that he'd go after Peyton Manning in 2012.

That said, data analysis is the worst for football because the sheer lack of sample size.

    Sounds like depth or coaching.
