New article by Friedman on Covington. Didn't see it posted elsewhere yet. Lock it up if it's been posted. http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/qa-robert-covington He sounds pretty good. Hopefully he won't get lost in the crush of bodies...
1. Henriquez is non-guaranteed. He'll be the first cut. 2. B.J. Young was given $40,000 guarantee. He'll most likely be cut and signed by RGV. 3. There is no place on this roster for Greg Smith with the signing of Howard and Camby. He'll most likely be traded for a draft pick if not included in a multi-player trade b4 the season starts. He most likely will not start the season here. 4. That leaves one more move necessary. My thought is either Smith goes out with Lin and Asik in a multi-player trade bringing back 1 player. (not very likely). Or one of Brooks, Williams, or Brewer is the last cut (most likely). Covington won't be cut unless he plays very, very baaaaaaaaad in training camp.
No. Because for a rookie getting praise from possibly the best SG in the league and your teammate is big.
I agree fully on 1-3. For 4, I think it will be Williams getting cut. Defense > Offense on SG right now. And Brooks is needed in case Lin is traded.
I think I generally agree. For some reason I thought we had 20 players signed, so that we needed to cut 5. For Smith, don't we possibly need him to play the 4, if DMO or Jones don't develop? I guess we could go small ball. I have liked what I have heard about Covington but given he's an undrafted rookie and we're in win now mode, I wasn't so sure he wasn't on the bubble. Here's hoppinh he'll make it although I don't see him making it over Brewer. I would need to be Brooks or Williams, I think. I agree I don't think Asik or Lin get traded before camp. I think the FO wants to see how they fit in with Howard first before looking around, and I don't think any of the true targets are available right now. As always, I enjoy your insights.
Good to know that my found is signed with rockets and doing well, hope he gets into team. He may play stretch 4 with smaller lineup and provide good effort/defense/athletism
I think that Covington needs to prove it a year in the D league. Not too bad for an undrafted rookie.
D-League sounds right so he can get better accustomed to playing Small forward and add some more ways to attack. He has a massive wingspan at 7'2". Just keep improving and maybe he could get a role similar to Danny Green. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/jbQ87Xhi8To" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I am willing to bet that Greg Smith will be with the Rockets at the beginning of the season, for better or worse.
