COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas A&M's mascot Reveille missed Saturday's triple-overtime victory against Fresno State after she snapped at her cadet handler when he stepped on the collie's tail while running earlier in the week.

Dean Bresciani, vice president for student affairs, said Sunday that Reveille was quarantined at Texas A&M's veterinary school for a couple of days as part of a standard operating procedure but will be back on the sidelines for the Aggies' game with Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday.

Bresciani said the mascot corporal was not hurt but was embarrassed that he stepped on the 6-year-old dog's tail. Reveille VII instinctively whipped around and snapped at the handler when he did that, Bresciani said.

He said the mascot was "living a life of luxury" and missed a hot, humid afternoon football game.

Reveille is considered the highest-ranking member of the school's Corps of Cadets and stands at attention in her maroon coat during sporting events and other functions.

    ----

It's a dog, people. A dog. A dog is the highest member of your Corps of Cadets. Taking this mascot thing a little too far? I think so.

I grew up an Aggie. My uncle went to A&M and was part of the corps of cadets. And football was in high gear with Bucky-mania, so naturally I was drawn in
It was his graduation. The family and I went to see him and took a visit to the campus, and spent time with him in his environment with other cadets...

I have NOT been an Aggie since.

    Fake Army...

I can't remember the exact quote, but when Mike Leach (Tech coach) said something to the effect of, "If they can pretend they're soldiers, why can't we pretend we're pirates?" I freakin' cracked up...

Damn, that rant was brutal. I agree with every word of it, especially the part about the band... Yes, they're loud but sit close to them and they sound like crap. Hey, that little pipe on your horn that you empty your spit from.... you can actually ADJUST it to adjust your pitch. Learn to TUNE YOUR INSTRUMENTS!!

That being said, the fact that everyone hates them so much..... actually makes me want to pull for them this year. Is that wrong?

I watched the 1st half of the Fresno State game and they were up 19-0. I missed the 2nd half. What happened?!?!?

That is a fake Jim Rome rant. It was famous on the Longhorns forums years ago. Whoever did it listens to too much Rome...

I used to go to CS all the times (sorority functions and the ex).

Nothing but drunk college kids! Well, I guess it's because it's the Aggie Town. :)

I went to A&M. Some of the stuff is a little strange, but it was fun to go there.

The UT guys that work for me always give me a hard time, but I enjoyed my time there. When you are there, all that other stuff usually falls to the background, though, and its just like any other University...trying to get to class, studying, partying, etc.

I DO kind of have to defend the corps. of cadets though. Despite not being in the corps. and thinking that a lot of their traditions are pretty silly, they put out a lot of fine military officers and have had many highly decorated soldiers come out of their ranks over the years. I believe they have a lot of Medal of Honor winners over their history.

When I was in college, late 80's, the dog mascot at the time died right before their game with Rice, in College Station.

The Rice Marching Owl Band formed the shape of a fire hydrant and played taps for their halftime performance.

The CORPS was so angry that sabers were drawn. I remember videos of this -- just intense fury. Police had to escort the band out of the stadium and out of town.

Of course, Rice got steamrolled again, but it was pretty funny.

I grew up in Huntsville and remember every Saturday night there would be a line of cars coming in from Roans Prairie and Shilo. It'd be A&M guys coming to town to try and pick up SHSU girls (or even try something with our HS girls!).

When you have to drive for an hour to someplace like Huntsville to pick up girls, you're not living in a "college town."

It was with the utmost satisfaction that we routinely destroyed the Aggie proxies at A&M Consolidated in all the sports that mattered.
