OK, here is the latest in my long line of computer problems.

Last night I attempted to open Rogue Spear. Every time I got past the game menu, it kicked me back out to the desktop. Strange thing – normally when I open it, it starts to run through the video intro, but this time it went straight to the game menu.

Naturally, I thought a re-boot would fix everything, however I could not get the PC to re-boot. Eventually, it let me start up in safe mode . From there I did a “Step by step start up”, after which I could seem to get everything working except my display , which kept defaulting to 800X600 with 16 colors.

Even now, a re-boot still takes much longer than it used to – it seems to pause on the “Windows 98” screen for up to 4 or 5 minutes.

I have an emachines PIII 500 MHZ with Voodoo 3 3dfx 2000 graphics card.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My uninformed opinion is that it is something to do with corrupted drivers or graphics card, since it all seemed to occur when starting a 3D game.

hopefully by the time you are reading this you have the problem solved already... if not good luck... my computer has done the safe mode thing before and i ended up reformatting the hard drive because i couldnt' figure out the problem.. and it seemed to solve the problem... just a thought probably a last option though unless you have everything backed up.
