Paul lost this with his pathetic display of playmaking

why is CP3 even in the post game press conference? Only players performed in the game are supposed to be there ....

Must admit, Paul was terrible. Part of it is age, I agree -- he'd penetrate but would get bottled up or commit a charge because he can't out-quick his defenders. Part of it is a funk -- he's missing open shots. Part of it is he made some surprisingly bad decisions -- passing the ball instead of taking the shooting opportunity, shooting when there was no opportunity. If he'd given us an average performance, we would have won this game.

But I also think people dog him too hard. Only part of his bad game was age. He'll shoot better in other games. He'll make better decisions. He'll find ways to change his game to cover for his declining athleticism. He is not as bad in general as he was in Game 5. (That said, no way is he worth $40 million. We better win it all this year, because the window is shut after that.)

 

You can trade Harden and Gordon for some young guys and picks, buy out Chris Paul (or hell, keep him as a mentor), and play the lottery for a few years while you wait for the salary figure to straighten out. Reloading probably doesn't have much chance of success.

 

The worst part is the contract. We’re paying $40m for someone we just can’t rely on to consistently perform. That’s way too expensive.

CP still has flashes. He’s still fine on defense and he’s got really quick hands. It’s his playmaking and decision making on offense that I’m most disappointed in honestly. I always thought those skills would remain as he aged, but he’s hit or miss there.

It just sucks because we don’t have a clear second option. Harden needs to show every night but we also need either CP, Gordon, or Capela to show up as well or we won’t stand a chance. Those three are 2a, 2b, and 2c. We rely on at least 3/4 of those dudes to show up and it’s so hard to hit 75% consistently.

 

It was so painful to watch. And you knew it was going to happen all over again next play. Seeing him jack up trey's, not even attempt PNR with Capela early in the shot clock.......Shame on him, the rockets, and MDA. This has to be addressed. No hate, it is what it is. Someone call it out. It should of never happened, but for it to happen over and over. He knows better, right? Seems to be a disconnect in communication or lack there of.

Paul is currently a role player. Rockets are doomed today and the coming future.

 

In the Clippers' final game playoffs against the Warriors, Lou was 3-21, including 1-7 in the 4th.

His +/- was -28, Trez was -19 and Bev was -10.

That wouldn't even beat the Knicks.

 

Yea the re-litigating of whether we should have executed the CP3 trade is quite strange.

Chris Paul is probably washed, but we went for a ring, and almost got it. The trade was the right move every time.

He’s still a very good player. And he’s going to show it tomorrow and Sunday. Just watch.

SMH. Must be nice to argue with hypothetical when a team has been man handling you for 5 years straight. Rockets need to man up and put this **** away.

 

Paul is supposed to be a smart player. D’Antoni is supposed to be a smart coach. Morey is supposed to be a smart GM. Now, out of all of their brains, has none of them realized that maybe he’s too old and slow to be attacking 1v1 against defenders like Klay and Iguodala and even Green? He can barely get by or get separation from Curry. Klay was a solid defender against Paul even in Paul batter years, so why would you think going 1v1 is the best option?

Paul should be getting the double screens and multiple screens and getting himself into / looking for the mid-range spots he’s great at. He’s still trying to play for three’s and stuff at the basket when he’s not quick enough to get great looks at the rim and can’t get the separation 1v1 to get good looks from 3PT.

Maybe Paul is in denial himself, but he needs to get out of that denial and play a style that he can actually perform at this age.
