You're telling me that a rookie hasn't blown us away through half a preseason where he's seen limited minutes? Spoiler CUT HIM NOW
WHY ISN'T HE AVERAGING 20-10???? HAS MOREY LOST IT!?!? it's the preseason, people supposed to be bad.
You don't draft potential and upside over established skills and talent. Potential and upside is gamble and if you get lucky, then lucky you. Also, the draft is over and Patterson (for better or worse, though it seems good so far) and there is no point in crying over spilled milk.
Because we have better players in front of him and the pre-season is there for the players that will actually be playing to work out their rust and gel together for the actual season and beyond. Patterson's time was in SL and TC, not the pre-season and beyond.
If you havn't noticed, this is a pretty deep team, he does not bring anything to the table they need immediately
After Evan Turner, and John Wall this draft was bad. There was a huge drop off from the second and third selection. It says a lot that Morey had this guy as the 6th best prospect.
I was commuting this morning, but from the limited minutes I saw, he was active and by far our fastest rotating post defensive player. He looked confident and I was quite happy.
I think this year's rookie class might surprise some people... You're forgetting Demarcus Cousins right off the bat...
You've got to include Cousins in that mix. My thoughts on Patterson are this: he's been doing this all his life. He was a top prospect coming out of high school; he was Kentucky's unquestioned best player his first two years. He would have been picked higher had he left after his sophomore year. He showed an ability to be coached and adapt his game for the benefit of his team (and detriment of his own ego). Off the court he sounds exactly like the other Rockets that have set the standard on our team these past few years. All that and he hasn't even played one regular season game yet. I wouldn't be so quick to write him off.
wow i know highlight reels can make any player look good, but larry sanders looks incredible. that high release turn around jumper looks dream-esque
i typed in the post-game thread that he reminds me of AC Green.....a smart workhorse type of player......which is nice....but maybe not as a lottery pick i'm not sure.....in any case, i would have taken larry sanders ahead of him without a doubt.
How do you know Patterson has little upside? I don't know much about Larry Sanders so I can't say he doesn't have more potential. But having great physical tools is just one among many ingredients that make a player great. A lot of the so-called high potential players lack many more important things, things such as discipline, intelligence, court vision (both offensively and defensively), etc.
He spent most of training camp filling in at the three. I think he still adjusting to going back to the 4 recently.
