You guys are nuts.....RJ lit PB ass in game 5 and 6. Did you guys not look at the stats? This is how we do PG comparison in clutchforum right?
It's pretty obvious that Morey isn't actually smart. He's just one of those guys that claims to be smart. Case in point, he still has not even figured out that Llull isn't even a point guard.
I won't even consider these kinds of questions until the summer passes. So much can change, and with Morey probably will. Hats off to management, coaching and the Baby Rockets on a thrilling season.
You post this thread after Beverley's worst game this series? 0 assists in 32 minutes. Yeah, he's really earned the starting job. You Lin haters are always looking for the next shiny new thing.
He doesn't have to be better than Lin, just close enough. There isn't a gulf in talent, unlike their respective salaries. A new standout PG or PGs emerge every year. Take a risk at that position and overspend elsewhere.
Beverley is alright but don't get ahead of yourself. And I'm no fan of the hype/turnover/defensively challenged machine that is Jeremy Lin. Never was. He's a gimmick.
And I'm glad you're tracking the quality of this board over the past 1 month you have been posting here.
With more experience Beverly could be a Derek Fisher type of starter on some team. But if fans want to see more Harden isos next year than there already is this year, a sure bet for that would be to replace Lin with Beverly as the starter. Wait, there is some situation that this move is the right one: If LBJ or Durant were to join Harden on the team, Beverly would be the starter you want over Lin!
Lin was averaging 17 & 7 in April and also had a good march. Won couple of games while james was out. Bev had a good stretch too but also stretch of 5 pointless games during that time. Not sure what you're talking about. Nov and jan, yeah he was bad. But rest of the season, pretty promising.
Lin deserves to, and will, start over Beverley next year. Unless Houston plays small ball and starts both. Beverley was horrible tonight. No excuses, not coming off an injury, and against a backup. His struggles began in the 4th quarter of Game 5 when Jackson lit him up for 11 points, and that continued tonight. If Beverley isn't playing good defense, he has no advantage over Lin. Jeremy, on the other hand, averaged like 17/2/6 in the last 10 games of the regular season. He had a tough first playoff game -- against Russell Westbrook -- and then got hurt. There is no discussion on this subject. Jeremy will be the starter, and should be the starter going into next year.
I think folks misunderstand what the role of a PG is... a Point Guard is supposed to help facilitate the offense of the team, and THEN worry about their own scoring. Beverley is basically an undersized Shooting Guard who plays good on ball defense, mediocre team defense, fouls too much, and has poor court vision and mediocre passing skills. He's basically Toney Douglas 2.0. Fine as a back up, but a LONG way from being a Point Guard. The problem with Beverley (and Toney Douglas) is that if their shot isn't falling then they're not doing anything in terms of generating offense. Even if Morey decide to trade Lin, Beverley would never, EVER be the starting Point Guard on the Rockets without some serious development. That's not to say Beverley can't improve (he's 23), but court vision is a LOT harder to develop than a shooting touch.
Who was the point guard on the Bulls championship teams in the 90s? Who was the point guard on the Lakers championship teams in the 2000s? The only essential attributes a "point guard" must have, IMO, is be able to defend opposing point guards, bring the ball up the floor, and initiate the offense.
