Team with little chance to compete for a title: Miami Heat Boston Celtics LA Lakers New York Chicago Bulls Brooklyn Nets Has this ever happened before? These aren't only the biggest market teams but franchises that have historically had competitive dynasties on the court almost every year. In contrast, Cleveland, Spurs, OKC, Phoenix, and Memphis are going to have teams that can compete for a ring. Regardless of the ongoing argument concerning the flaws of the CBA or "super" teams, this year might have the most interesting parity we've seen in some time. I'm also interested on how this year and the next few will affect the NBA economy considering so many of the big markets are unrepresented. Lin in LA is actually a consistent cash cow for the China market as HOU and LA are the two big teams in China.
Bulls have a legit chance at a title. They were a 60 win team with healthy Derrick Rose. They've already added Mirotic, McDermott and have cap space to add a $10-$12m player. Plus Butler and Gibson will be very good in starting roles. And remind us all of the Knicks and Nets dynasty?
The Bulls may have a chance to get far in the weak Eastern Conference but they would struggle to be an 8th seed in the West. What reports have said Rose will be healthy? I may have misused the term dynasty to refer to the Knicks and Nets. My meaning is that they are perennially big markets that are usually able to field a title competitive teams throughout the history of the NBA. Regardless of the two details above, the point is that the parity in the NBA will be far removed from what basketball fans have been used to seeing.
Miami got shafted by LBJ, now they must recover. With Bosh and Granger they'll still be able to make the playoffs, and depending on if they get Deng maybe even the second round. NYK, if they get Melo back, will have basically the same team as last year. Again, a playoff team. The Celtics are still rebuilding as far as I know. They'll be good in a few years depending on how Smart develops and how many pieces they can add. Rondo, if he does not want to be there, can be traded for assets. Bulls are semi-championship ready. A lot hinges on the Health of D Rose, though. It's a wait-and-see scenario. And finally, the Lakers. Jim Buss says that if they don't contend within 4-5 years he'll step down. That's about the only good news for them right now. The West is stacked, and a Kobe led team with second rate players just won't cut it. The sensible thing is to make moves to clear cap space now, win later. Somehow I don't see that happening.
LeBron will be back in the Finals next year Bosh Staying in Miami . . .gives LeBron a good chance to win Rocket River . . . . bitter . . .. . .
So what, the Bulls do play in the East, therefore they could easily be the top dog if Rose is healthy. And to your original point, Clippers still play in LA, Toronto top 10 market, Washington top 10 market, San Francisco top 10 market, Atlanta top 10 market, Houston top 10 market, Dallas top 10 market. So I disagree
Melo in NY and Bosh in Miami . .. . the east still sucks DRose will probably never be healthy again . . so chicago sucks again Will the Wizards rise? Atlanta? Rocket River
Because the East is so weak and West is so tough, no East star is wanting to come over, having second thoughts and West stars are either flocking towards East or staying put.
The Clippers play in LA which is a big market. Sometimes people forget that the Clippers are in a big market because they are the Clippers.
