Papanikolaou leaning toward two-year deal with Rockets

    Yes, trying reading some of the thread you're replying in.

    He's light-years ahead of where DMo was when he was added to the roster. Actually he's probably quite far ahead of him right now as well.

    I can't speak Spanish and am completely unfamiliar with their expressions, but I'd guess that the "second tier" thing isn't about being a starter vs coming off the bench, it's probably that he wants to be part of the rotation and the coach's plans. The concept of "wanting to start" doesn't really exist in Europe. He didn't start for Olympiacos during their first title run (3 years) ago either, but everyone knew he was the top SF. Much like Ginobili, I doubt a player with extensive Euroleague experience cares about the marketing crap that is the starting line-up, so long as he gets his minutes and is utilized well.

    Morey loses out on another player with his offensive offer.

    Should have known. This summer the Rockets are only going to acquire black players.

    I think this means that the team has something planned for the MLE that precludes them from offering Kostas more than the did already.

    He should have recognized his opportunity. This year might have been his best to seriously challenge for a rotation spot and cement himself as an NBA player. The Rockets are in serious need of a Small Forward. Hopefully they will make an offer to Shawn Marion.

    I don't blame the guy for making a math decision. But, I am wondering why Morey and the team didn't want to risk more of the MLE or cap room on the guy. Was his asking price that high or is there something else pending (or flexibility)?
