a sticky thread that gets updated on a regular basis with salaries/draft picks/European assets would benefit the site

Is it legal to sign Jason Terry to a partially guaranteed contract for the purposes of a sign-and-thread.

For instance, could we sign him to a 6 million dollar one year contract with only 1 million guaranteed and trade it to Portland as part of a deal for LMA? I know you can't do it with a retired player like Keith VanHorn, but can you do it with our own player?

Nope. Sign-and-trade deals must be a minimum of three years in length, with the first year being fully guaranteed.

Also, I highly doubt Terry agrees to such a deal at this point in his career. Not unless he's going to a contender or unless the team he's going to will be waiving him (allowing him to sign with a contender) and eating his entire first year's salary.

So we could sign-trade-terry but his first year would be guaranteed. If that is the case, we could potentially sign him for the amount we need to match LMA's salary and send 3 million in cash to cover most of it.

    Something like

    Papa
    Prigs
    TJones
    Decker(signed)
    Harrell (signed)
Terry or Brew resigned to 5 million bucks

for LMA at 19 million with a one year opt-out.

I have my doubts if an S/T can be done with KJ in a package to Portland, I know it would have to be a separate trade, but if they are in a semi-rebuilding mode, they might be able to use him especially with the Wesley Matthews/ Aaron Afflalo UFA situation.

That is why I didn't put KJ in the trade. Terry is the obvious choice because he is near retirement and would be making a lot of money just to hang out.

......and we'd be out of cap space. With no starting PG.

We are already out of cap space. We would be in the same situation as we are now and still have our MLE.

    A hypothetical question:

If Aldridge signs for 12 mill so we can keep Ariza and Dmo and go for a title this year, which i think is his main focus, that why we can bring Lull in for MLE if iam not mistaken

How much of a pay cut would Dwight have to take next year for us to resign Aldridge and sign Durant to two Max deals?

K.J. (essentially) cannot be signed-and-traded. The Rockets cannot use (Non-) Bird rights to sign him to more than $1.045 million, and teams cannot sign-and-trade a player using the MLE.

Ridiculous hypothetical, but can't we sign Aldridge at a one year discounted rate (to keep Ariza) and sign Durant at a discount next year, and then after one year we'd hold Durant, Aldridge and Dwight's bird rights to give them all their full max deals? Just a way of worming around the salary cap restrictions to get the four guys on the same team?

If you signed both Aldridge and Durant then you wouldn't have their Bird rights for 3 years.
