Other than Indiana and Miami, did any team get worse this summer?

Parsons is just as bad as Harden on defense.

We got better by adding a similar, If not better shooter, who is a vastly superior defender.

On paper, yes, we lost talent.

Asik wanted out. If a player doesn't want to be there, you may as well consider him gone anyways. On paper, we lost on Asik, however chemistry wise, its a wash.

We received an upgrade in Ariza over Parsons. And we didn't pay 15M for Ariza. Parsons wasn't worth half of that.

Lin is 50/50. We will miss Lin when he is playing on his good days, but his bad days will always remind us of how much of a liability he was.

We did fairly well considering how it could have gone down. The reality is, there was not a good chance of having a great offseason. Outside of being able to get Love or a couple others, the options were slim pickings.

    In retrospect, we could have:
    Paid 15M for Parsons
    Signed Anthony
    Not signed Ariza

It would have been nice to sign Bosh, but the reality is that he was never leaving Miami. He would have certainly helped, but at 22M, he was only good for trade bait.

Team got worst by all measures.

You don't lose 3 key pieces to you rotation and get one with significant exp. back Ariza and not expect to be worst. 6th man and 2nd ball handler Lin is gone. Hate all you want but that function is needed and Rockets did not replace at all.

Then there is the backup center role. DM and Dorsey? Who are you kidding?

Now I think DM will step up but he is no defensive stopper. Dorsey? Please.

Parsons is a very good at everything guy and his head got too big for this team. So his lost I care least about because at least there is a replacement in place.

But this was a disappointing off season to say the least.

Harden and Howard should be better in their second year together. Cannan could fill the Lin role.

Ariza might be a better fit than Parsons.

Main problem is losing Asik and not getting anyone to replace him. Natural progression of Terrence Jones and D-Mo seems unlikely to mitigate that

Dallas got worse. The Parsons signing guarantees that their ceiling the next three years will be the 7th-8th seed.

The rockets got better defensively and worse offensively. Remains to be seen if we are a better or worse team.

Troll thread. Rockets are an obvious answer to the question.

I can say the rockets improved.

Other teams that also improved include the Pelicans, Lakers and Mavericks.

We got better defensively @ SF for sure, but all the other new guys are big ?'s on D at this point. We lost Asik who was above average on D and there is a big drop off defensively between Lin and Canaan.

No doubt Ariza is way better than Parsons on D, but the question is how big an impact will he have. His DefRtg was 101.2 compared to the team DefRtg of 102.4 so that's good, but guys like Nene and Gortat had a bigger defensive impact on the Wizards with DefRtgs under 100.

The loss of Asik and Lin w/o adequate defensive replacements probably will have a bigger impact than Ariza's improved D.

We didn't get worse because of losing Parsons... we got worse because we lost Asik and Lin and didn't replace them with anybody remotely comparable.

Our starting five is about the same, maybe slightly better even, but our bench got a big downgrade.

That requires coach to change the game plan. Will the offense include more offball movement this year ?

That's like saying Kostas Koufos is going to have issues with guys like Dwight Howard.

Why would our backup center ever guard Gasol or any other starting center, significant amount of times worth mentioning?

Yet the Morey idiots on here will label this offseason a success. Anybody who disagrees apparently gets called a troll.

Foul trouble or injury? Last year even w/o Gasol we only won the first two games against the Grizzles because in game one Asik had 10 rebounds and was +11 in 21 minutes. In the second game against the Grizzles Howard only played 18 minutes because of foul trouble and DMo came up big defensively with 3 blks and was +17. If Dmo can put in good minutes @ center then backup center wont be such a big worry, but that is a big IF.

I hate that Morey has got people thinking we can win a championship with a bad bench.

    Rockets got worse?

-We lost Lin which I would think most people here would think is a plus.
-Ariza is probably the same as Parsons but with slightly better defense.
-Asik is the only loss I really see here, but with such dominant center (Dwight), a backup center is the least of our worries.

Rockets "loss" this off-season because we didn't get Bosh and we didn't keep Parsons for a bag of Cheetos for another year.

That is just letting the hate of Lin's dumb turnovers or his fans cloud your judgment. McHale has said in multiple interviews that Asik, Lin and Parsons all played big roles in last years team and there are a lot of hole to fill.

Ariza is an upgrade over Parsons, but we don't know if any of the new guys can fill in for Asik and Lin. As the Cyberex thread keeps on going in the GARM we know that a lot of people here think we need a PG.
