and, of course, you are right. http://houston.astros.mlb.com/news/..._id=12474476&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou he's a sick, sick man.
Not necessarily true... Could be they just wanted a reliever for a few days and then intend to call Happ up to start. But...there's a twist. Oswalt's regular turn in the rotation is Saturday...
Bingo, Happ could start but that would probably mean no deal including Roy since they already called up the AA pitcher for Sunday but if there is a deal in place then Roy would take his regular start.
By the way Ryen from the SVP show said Oswalt's been telling teams he wants them to pick up his 2012 team option, hope it doesn't change anything
Uh oh... Roy Oswalt is asking for the Phillies, or any team that acquires him, to guarantee his $16 million option in 2012 before he would approve a trade, according to two sources familiar with the discussions. And the Phillies, for now at least, are balking at that request. So there were indications Wednesday that Oswalt’s contract demands were on the verge of blowing up a potential deal between the Astros and Phillies involving the 32-year-old Astros ace. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5398937
Well, the Phils are 7 games back in the East, I'm sure they want as many starts out of Roy as possible. I'd like to see some position players come with the trade as well...the middle of our order is absolutely brutal (in a bad way).
Well the phillies have a bunch of money tied up to their star players anyway, what's another 16 mil huh? :/ plus their desperate for a starting pitcher, its funny thought because they let brett myers walk and traded cliff lee to get prospects back
I don't think its a bad move on Oswalt's part to see if any team will be willing to pick up that option. I'm guessing if he finds no takers on that, he'll waver on that request.
So...Roy wants to be traded so he can be on a winner, but then he's doing everything he can to prevent being traded? I wish he had a twitter account so we can find out what he's thinking.
I can't help but think this is posturing on behalf of Oswalt and his agent. Otherwise, what was the point of Roy's trade request? That would be ideal for him, sure, but given the market it would make him impossible to trade. If Roy is really saying that, he might as well make a public statement that he wants to stay an Astro for life.
From that article, it would be Happ and one or two "A ball" level players. No Cosart, Singleton, or Brown. Assuming a lot though. Looks like any such deal is on life support.
One guy on TCB was saying that this is common and not too much to worry about. I don't have a lot of experience following trades closely so maybe I overreacted a little.
I would be okay with it, if their system truly has the most "A" ball talent, but I would have REALLY wanted Singleton to be part of a deal like that.
