You know, our 22-year-old 19.1 PER PF? He was actually 3rd on the Rockets last year in PER (a little higher than Bosh's PER) and 3rd best in win shares/48. I know he's not Chris Bosh, but he actually was not too shabby last year. On offense, he's only a marginal downgrade from Bosh but he's improving. Yes, his defense is not good. That's why Bosh was exciting for us. But I remain hopeful that he will improve in that regard. He's quick, long, and athletic; he does not lack the skills to be a good defender. He just needs to be a smarter defender. Yes, we did just get gut punched and lost out on an opportunity to have the best starting 5 in basketball. I must say, even when we were reveling in the prospect of getting Bosh, a part of me was sad that we were losing Terrence (most likely). So I take some solace in that we still have this very promising young player on our team. Go Rockets!
I am very high on TJones. We need another good PF for depth, but I really like what we have in TJones. Let's see what Morey does over the next couple days before we have a complete meltdown.
Carmelo Anthony LeBron James Terrence Jones Dirk Nowitzki Chris Bosh Pau Gasol One of these don't belong.
He's a better defender at this stage of his career than Bosh was at the same point in his career... you no nothing
Young players often struggle on defense. Good thing is that he doesn't lack the physical tools to be a good defender. He also doesn't seem to be a lazy player so hopefully he'll improve.
Based on that? Jones may not be a great defender now but with his athletic ability there is no reason to believe that he can't become a good defender down the road. We should focus more on PG and backup C position IMO. Of course that is if we retain Chandler.
So is Harden. The downside to TJones is his inexperience. Hopefully we will see much improvement next season.
LOL, sure if he can become a 16-8 guy......is this what this off-season has come to?? Remembering the PF who got benched for long stretches especially late in games?
Fantastic post. Terrence Jones has Lamar Odom written all over him. The guy was 21-22 last year, and had FANTASTIC chemistry on the offensive end with Harden and Dwight. He absolutely has the talent to grow into a studly starting PF. One of the most talented young players in the league, and VASTLY underrated right now. He will change that when he drops a few 30 point games, and the old man strength from the weight room starts kicking in.
