Agreed, we should discard the Constitution every 5 or 10 years and write a new one so that we can keep up with the times. I love smart, independent thoughts like this.

Texas leads the country in road-rage violence.

Texas would be a nice place to live in with this new law.

    Next, legalize mar1juana.

At that point we can remove the Mexican border.

I don't know... is this what people call a "strawman argument"?

It's been more than 200 years.
BTW, congress proposes amendments all the time. They didn't pass did not mean your congressmen and mine had not thought about it.
    How about that independent thought?

Strawmen were some of the earliest creatures to populate America, I'd say the Founding Fathers had their best interests at heart.

No, not really, if anything it was reductio ad absurdum. It's not a strawman because I was making the same argument, just a more extreme version in an attempt to show why the original argument was flawed. I probably should have just had a good laugh about it and moved on.

I'm writing a paper on the correlation I've found between CHL laws and lower crime rates. I'll share it here once I've finished and turned it in.

Bobs is right. His statement wasn't a strawman. It was an epic black & white strawman on a slippery slope.

No, it was exactly what I said it was, an example of reductio ad absurdum, which in this case wasn't even fallacious. Fun links though.

Of course, perhaps look into how many loaves of Mrs. Baird's were used in home invasions and robberies. It's truly a worthy use of your time, can't wait to read it.

You can count on me to track down all sorts of loose correlations and imply causation!

I certainly know you have the time to waste. Maybe it will help you cut down on your 16 post per day average. Perhaps you can also explain the loose correlation between the U.S. having the most guns per capita in the developed world and also having the highest gun murder rate in the developed world. Please dazzle us with the loose correlation between guns and gun murders. Maybe you can work in rye bread somehow or maybe some kind of racial angle.

I would also really like to know if his allegation of "loose correlation" is based on conjecture or an actual empirical understanding of the study that was linked.

I'd like to know how to get the actual study, it is sadly behind a subscription wall. :(

Open carry reminds me of gay marriage -- we'd probably get used to it pretty quick.

NRA is generally against open carry efforts. This is mostly because "open carry efforts" boils down to r****ds walking around with rifles. You are probably completely misinformed about what the NRA does and their motivations behind it.
