    ...The fact that almost all of you folks are at work while you're reading this. I can't say that I wouldn't do the same if I had a job behind a desk somewhere, but you gotta admit it's a terrible strain on our nation's productivity.


    Companies monitor their internet activity, I know. But there's no way half of the surfing done is budgeted for in terms of payroll hours, so it's pretty much the same as stealing a portion of your check IMO. Japan's superiority in efficiency becomes more impregnable every time you log on...


    Thoughts?

    but there is downtime at almost every office during which you can either read the news or talk to your coworker or get online. it's not like the entire 8 hours are fully utilized.

    plus at many professional jobs you regularly work more than 8 hours. you work as long as whatever work you have gets done or whatever without recieving any extra compensation.

    did pre-internet america have better productivity than now?

    That's a great question...


    But if it didn't decrease, or it is relatively equal, wouldn't that mean we're more productive when we are working as a result of the internet? The time spent browsing had to have come from somewhere - perhaps it was the time saved by using the internet for reference?
