One-armed golfer's prosthetic limb stolen March 19, 2002 SPRING, Texas (AP) -- Someone stole the $15,000 artificial limb that a golfer known as the ``One-Armed Bandit'' needs for charity matches. The custom-made golfing arm was in Larry Alford's sport utility vehicle when it stolen from an apartment complex early Saturday. ``This is pretty serious because it's how I make my living,'' Alford said. ``It's pretty sad that it happened.'' No arrests had been made by Tuesday. The 28-year-old Alford was a promising amateur golfer before he lost his arm below the elbow 10 years ago in a car wreck. Since then, he has taken on able-bodied golfers in charity fund-raising exhibitions around Texas. -- bummer...now he really IS the one armed bandit!
I bet a match between him and Casey Martin would be pretty fun to watch...Put those two guys together, and they make 1.5 pretty damn good golfers
I took him on in one of those par 3 fund raisers at a Crime Victims Tournament at Memorial Park. Really nice guy and even though he probably had been hitting the same shot all day, you gotta be amazed. He beat me easily. Hope he finds his arm.
