And? Woj is known for his news, not for his opinions.

    Here, I FIFH:

"Houston doesn't need to find a deal. The Rockets were dealing from a place of leverage, but the rest of the league simply hadn't caught on to that fact yet."

Asik represents a huge improvement to many teams, including the Rockets. Once the rest of the league catches on to that fact, then a deal may become possible. If that doesn't happen, then the Rockets will simply reap the benefits of having one of the best defensive anchors in the entire league backing up Dwight Howard (or alongside Howard if Morey ever gets himself a competent set of coaches).

After being reminded how poorly the smallball defense performs lately, I am a little surprised people aren't more concerned with the possibility of not having Asik around anymore for the next 1.75 years. The loss of Asik will make the team a lot worse for 2 whole shots at championships, so unless the return is huge, there will be no trade. People are losing sight of the fact that keeping Asik is a perfectly viable option.

Sure, the pundits (and many fans) won't be very happy with nothing to report and may bag on Morey and the Rockets on Asik for another 1.75 years, but I doubt the pundits' favor is in the top 17 as far as Morey's basketball priorities goes. Will Asik's trade value be less in 1.25 years? That sounds likely, if not certain, but then the Rockets would have had Asik's services for a year, and that's worth a whole lot. No contract lasts forever.

It's hard to trade Asik if he doesn't play. Best way to get good value for him is to play him. If Asik plays the way he should for 2-3 games then the calls coming in for him will be a lot more.

Think of Pau before his latest few games. No one really wanted him thinking he was shot but after a few good games people remember Pau is an all star.

GMs need to remember how Asik's stellar defense and rebounding can win games.

    http://www.cbssports.com/nba/writer...on-their-terms-rockets-now-face-real-deadline

After backing out of trade talks for Omer Asik on Thursday, the Rockets are faced with the same dilemma they had before: Two months to trade their unhappy center.

So, nothing really changed except that Thursday's self-imposed deadline to satisfy the Turkish big man's trade request wasn't much of a deadline.

And the teams Houston was dealing with knew it.

League sources say Asik's new agent, Arn Tellem of Wasserman Media Group, left Houston Thursday morning after efforts to get his client routed to greener pastures -- Boston, for example -- did not come to fruition. Houston GM Daryl Morey's desire to move Asik by Thursday so he could subsequently repackage any players involved before the Feb. 20 trade deadline did not outweigh the paucity of unattractive deals on the table.

Rival executives were dubious from the beginning of a scenario that would've sent Asik to Boston for Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee and a first-round pick. Bass and Lee are two contracts that Celtics GM Danny Ainge is trying to unload, and league sources say he'd probably have to give up a draft pick to find a taker for Lee, anyway. So a deal that would also shed Bass and bring in Asik, a defensive center who is only 27, would be "a great deal for them," one executive said.

If that was the deal Morey wanted, it would've been done already. Clearly, it wasn't. One person familiar with Morey's thinking said the Houston GM did not covet Bass or Lee, and likely only considered such a deal if he could have flipped one or both of them in future deals. Of course, A) he couldn't do that unless he acquired them by Thursday under NBA rules, and B) league sources say the market for both players would've been minimal, anyway.

So, having tried to create a market for Asik with this fictitious Thursday deadline -- another mundane negotiating dance being characterized as a "sweepstakes" -- Morey hoped another team would step up with a sweeter offer. Perhaps his old buddy and co-worker, Sixers GM Sam Hinkie, would oblige by offering Thaddeus Young. Maybe Hawks GM Danny Ferry would throw Paul Millsap's name into the mix -- though, if he was bidding against a package of Bass and Lee, it's not clear why he would do that. And evidently, Ferry didn't, because the Rockets would've have ended the talks on Thursday.

Cleveland was volunteered as a potential suitor, except that it wasn't -- not in a deal that would involve Anderson Varejao, the player the Rockets wanted. There was even a "mystery" or "wild-card" team -- oooooh, tell me more -- but that one never came to fruition, either. Let's just say that when that supposed team was identified as the Portland Trail Blazers, I didn't even have to make a phone call to know that it wasn't them.

The truth is, Morey made a valiant effort to do his job -- create a market for a player he has to trade. It's not going to work now -- as of 2:10 p.m. ET on Dec. 19 -- but that doesn't mean it won't work eventually. The simple fact is that there is no such thing as ending trade talks on Dec. 19. There are only two things that end trade talks: 1) a trade, and 2) the trade deadline.

    Both scenarios remain in play.

Lol guys, it isn't a bluff if Morey actually can just walk away from the trade. We still have until the end of this upcoming summer before we become desperate.

Arn Tellem isn't just any agent, he's the most powerful Agent in the NBA. He has the most clients of ANY single agent in the NBA.

    Take a look...

    http://hoopshype.com/agents/arn_tellem.htm

Arn Tellem is a serious power broker, and regardless of what Asik thinks of himself, he's a very, very small fish in Tellem's pond. Tellem isn't a mom and pop agent that Asik can push around. Tellem is the type of agent that has tremendous influence over the NBA and players.

Tellem will tell Asik what he needs to hear, simply because you don't get as big as he gets without knowing how to manage your clients.

Re-ally thrilled with re-acquiring Omer Asik, any chance we could re-pair him up with Dwight and go for a re-twin tower lineup? we'll re-wreak havoc

So basically all we have learned is that these reporters know nothing.

Rockets will never be desperate with Asik's contract. He's a 8 million cap contract. No big deal for a back up center.

Oh, well, Just keep him till the deadline, we are going at around 5-3 rate right now, which is not too bad.
BTW, Carl called out that it would take a pick for GMs just to take on Lee's contract.

Well, if it means we traded sulky Asik for productive Asik, then I, for one, welcome our new backup center overlord.

Everywhere I read, everybody's saying no deal TODAY, walking away TODAY.. Could the new deadline of tomorrow actually play a larger role than we all thought?

What we have learned is that reporters report what they hear. And what they hear is often fictitious, embellished or out and out wrong.

More than anything else, I want Asik to be activated for the Indiana game now. The second unit has been floundering without his inside presence.
